Playing My Time at Sandrock with friends can be a wonderful experience as everyone is working towards a shared goal. But setting up multiplayer isn’t as easy as starting a single-player campaign. Choosing the wrong option results in you playing with strangers instead of your friends. This is how multiplayer works in My Time at Sandrock to ensure you know how to invite your friends and play together. You can also change servers depending on the people you want to play with.

The Multiplayer Choices in My Time at Sandrock

You must create a new character before you start multiplayer as this will be separate from the single-player campaigns. After confirming your character, you get three choices for multiplayer:

  • Join a Town: This allows you to join a town that your friends have invited you to.
  • Create a Town: You become the host of a town and invite friends to play with you.
  • Match a Town: You will enter a player’s town who is on the same server as you.

Your friends do not have to join all at once if they aren’t able to; they can come as long as they are invited. Everyone playing multiplayer together must be on the same server and you can’t carry your characters to different servers. If you wish to play on a different server, your character will be deleted.

There is no overarching story when playing with friends. Unlike the main game, you arrive at Sandrock before the main story happens. You will craft items to improve the workshop and complete town quests. It’s a sandbox experience where you can do whatever you like. Your multiplayer progress can carry over if you decide to move to another town or play with random strangers. If you switch servers, you lose your entire character and all the progress you made.

Playing multiplayer is a great way to combine your skills with your friends and create something amazing. Joining the towns of random players is also a good way to learn something different from people you wouldn’t normally meet. Starting a single-player game is highly recommended to give you the experience that lets you know what you’re doing. You can still learn how to play in multiplayer if your town has players willing to teach you.
