One of the best new shows of 2016, Stranger Things is now available to stream on Netflix.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information.

Stranger Things was one of 2016’s biggest surprises. We absolutely loved season one, and we were not the only ones. The announcement of a second season surprised exactly no one, and information is starting to trickle out. Deadline has released some casting information for two brand new characters joining the already excellent cast of Stranger Things.

The first new cast member is Sadie Sink, a fourteen-year-old actress who has appeared in things like American Odyssey, The Americans, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She joins the cast as Max, a tomboy with a complicated past who is extremely suspicious of the people around her. Sink took to Twitter to announce how excited she was:

YOU GUYS. I am so happy and thrilled to join the cast of @Stranger_Things for season 2!! Thanks for all of the love and support!

— Sadie Sink (@SadieSink) October 14, 2016

The other new cast member is Dacre Montgomery, who is portraying the Red Ranger in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. Although not quite as exuberant in his tweeting as Sink, Montgomery was also very excited to announce his casting:

Honoured to announce that I will be joining the cast and crew on the second season of this wonderful show. @strangerthingstv @netflix pic.twitter.com/FfXELAh6R0

— Dacre Montgomery (@dacremontgomery) October 15, 2016

Montgomery will take on the role of Billy, Max’s older brother. He is described as edgy and aggressive; he steals people’s girlfriends, drives a black Camaro, and wins at drinking games. He also is hiding a dangerous, violent streak underneath his charismatic exterior.

There is not too much information yet about season two of Stranger Things. It is a direct sequel, taking place about a year after the events of season one (mainly due to the aging of the child actors). We know most, if not all, of the major players from season one will be returning. Actors definitely returning include Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. The second season will also be nine episodes long, rather than just the eight episodes of season one. It releases next year.
