Out of the five available characters in the new bullet hell game, Death Must Die, Merris has become one of my favorites and one of the easiest to level up fast with, provided you have a good build for it. There are loads of blessings available in the game that you can use to gain awesome abilities, but however useful they are, they aren’t the only thing you need to watch out for when carefully constructing your Merris leveling build. The items you choose to put on your character make a massive difference in your gameplay and, in turn, your ability to level up fast.

By herself, Merris can be a relatively slow character in Death Must Die, but there are some things you can do to help boost her abilities and whatnot. The first thing you should do is pick the best perk for the job. You can unlock five different perks for each character by completing certain objectives within the game.

The Perk that we want for Merris is The Sign of the Timespace. This perk allows you to have infinite Pull Range but takes away one dash charge and removes 30% Dash Cooldown. To unlock The Sign of the Timespace, you must defeat The Necromancer with Merris.

Since there is so much gear in Death Must Die, there is a lot of variety and, therefore, tons of options. However, we want a couple of rolls on our gear that will throw our leveling straight up through the roof.

First and foremost, you want to have a decent weapon. The more DPS and projectile velocity you can scrounge up, the better. It’s also important to try for weapons that will give you some extra attack speed, damage, and area. Additional projectiles can’t hurt either.

Next, let’s take a look at our jewelry slots. For an Amulet, I like to go for something that boosts up the weapon a bit more. Try to pain for attack and spell velocity here, as well as speeds. The faster you can take out an enemy, the faster you can get Experience Shards. For your Jewel, aim for something that adds Alteration Dice, Reroll Dice, and More Expert or Master Offers. These will help out a ton in the long run. The Ring slot is best used as a boost for Skill Rarity Level-Up Offers. These are extremely important and can be the difference between winning and losing a run.

Now, let’s look at our armor. Here, we can go for something that will give us a higher chance to find Heals, increase our luck, and give us alteration options when it comes to choosing our blessings. I chose the Divine Shirt of Revision. This gives Revivals, as well as Reroll Dice, a whole bunch of Luck, and some Heals.

When it comes to choosing the best belt for Merris, you would be wrong to choose anything that doesn’t offer Passive Experience Gain. If what you’re going for is levels, this is an absolute must, kind of like Death’s death. In addition to passive experience gain, you should also look for a decent amount of armor in this slot.

Our Feet and Hands slots are where we’re really going to kick it up a notch. Your feet should have armor that allows you a large increase in movement speed, as well as more experience gain. Right now, we’re rocking the Wise Sandals of Haste. They don’t give very much armor, but the whopping 40 Movement Speed and 62.4% more Experience Gain they offer makes them very well worth it. Your Hands slot should look very similar.

While Mort may be Death’s daughter, it doesn’t mean she can’t greatly assist in taking him down. When it comes to our Merris build, we’re going to be seeing a lot of Mort’s face. Given Merris’ ability to collect Experience Shards regardless of the distance, having a bunch of minions running around is a great idea.

More specifically, we want to see Master Necromancy, Master Ravens of Pestilence, Master Blades, and Master Lightning Orbs. Each of these skills can deal tons of damage and provide you with the most experience possible to level Merris up quite quickly.
