Knowing how to recycle is a big deal in Coral Island, which makes the Recycling Center an important landmark. The entire game is about working with your environment, whether that’s by farming, raising animals, or helping to revitalize the island and coral reefs. Letting trash pile up everywhere is pretty much the opposite of your mission in this environmentally-conscious sim.

It’s also not helpful if your limited inventory slots are wasted carrying around garbage. Whether you’re doing it to make the world a better place or just make your pockets a little lighter, recycling is important. Here’s everything we know about the Recycling Center in Coral Island, whether you can use it, and if so how.

The Recycling Center is located at the Dump, and it’s one of the more mysterious locations in the game. After the developer teased shots of the location, fans began speculating about how the site would work. In addition to the piles of trash that litter the Dump, there are what appear to be bins in which to sort your trash as well as a trash compactor.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no way to actually use the Recycling Center in Coral Island. Before you can use the Recycling Center, you’ll first need to restore it by way of a Community Project, a feature that the developer hasn’t implemented yet.

Though it’s disappointing we can’t use the Recycling Center to dispose of all the trash in Coral Island, there’s every indication that we’ll be able to do so soon. NPCs mention both the Recycling Center and Community Garden as projects that would be great to finish.

It seems likely that the developer didn’t want to rush the implementation of the Recycling Center until it could be included as a full-featured addition to the game, possibly as part of the main story.

Early details suggest that the player will be able to restore the Recycling Center and Community garden to use by donating Gold and resources like Wood and Scrap to the town. For the moment, however, the developer has yet to implement that option.

How To Recycle Your Trash Without the Recycling Center

In the meantime, if you want to dispose of trash, you need to use a Recycling Machine instead. It may be smaller and less impressive, but until the developer updates the game to make fixing the Recycling Center an option, it’s your only choice for trash disposal, other than Beach Cleanup Day.

Once you’ve unlocked the machine, you can load it with up to 20 pieces of Trash. After a short wait, the machine will recycle the trash into Scrap, a useful crafting ingredient.
