If you’re not new to the world of RPGs, then you understand how many games function on various currencies. However, Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader does things a little differently. Picture a trading system where you won’t lose anything when you “purchase” something. That’s where the Profit Factor comes in. It may seem confusing initially, but once you know how to utilize Profit Factor in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, you’ll fully embrace the game’s trading system.

As the Rogue Trader, it isn’t your job to wander around with coin bags to give to vendors for items. Instead, your focus is on your Profit Factor. This is how your wealth and influence are measured. It is something that you will use as leverage of sorts to get items you need. When you first start Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, your Profit Factor is at 10. It can fluctuate, but it won’t dip below zero.

You want to keep your Profit Factor as high as possible. The higher it is, the greater the likelihood you can gain more items. This is because vendors will trade faction items to you based on the bracket your Profit Factor sits at. For instance, if your Warhammer 40K Profit Factor is 10, you can gain items from vendors at 10 and under. However, you are unable to get the items at 15, 20, etc. So, if you want to unlock access to more items for you and the Voidship.

How To Increase Profit Factor

In Warhammer 40K, your Rogue Trader can build up and lose Profit Factor. Again, nothing is taken when you trade for items. Your actions throughout the game can increase the Profit Factor or drain it. The following actions can dictate how it changes:

  • Colony Projects
  • Contracts
  • Dialogue choices
  • Story missions

If you choose a Colony Project, for example, you’ll know how it will impact your Warhammer 40K Profit Factor. Under the “Reward” section, it should indicate whether Profit Factor will increase or decrease, and by how much.

It’s not a given that dialogue choices or missions will offer up Profit Factor points. So, just keep an eye on choices that impact your skills. These are quite rare though, so it pays more to focus on the Colony Projects that you can unlock in Act 2.

Now that you know how Profit Factor determines how renown you are in the universe, you can work on improving it as best as possible. There’s no max, so feel free to improve your standing throughout your game so you can access every trade.
