It’s safe to say that Duke Nukem has fallen on hard times for a while now.ย Old Duke found success in his first few games. Then Duke’s ship of success hit some rocks since Duke Nukem Forever had some development issues. These issues caused the ironically named game to have an extended development cycle. As a result, DKF took over a decade to release. Furthermore, the end product wasn’t hugely groundbreaking.
Yet Duke, and his development team, aren’t quitters it seems. A budding Duke fan tweeted Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford a few days ago and the following exchange happened.

First of all, this raises some interesting possibilities about this announcement. The most likely explanation is that another Duke game is on the way. Since Mr Nukem needs to regain his stride as a video game icon, this could be exciting. Yet is that all it is? Could there be a crossover in the works? Duke actually crossing over with Gears of War seems unlikely. Unless Mr Everet has inside knowledge, the odds of this tweet before an announcement are unlikely.
Yet PC Gamer raises another possibility;
“So, what could it be? Some new xenomorph, perhaps: Shortly after teasing the December 1 announcement, Pitchford retweeted the first poster for next year’s Alien: Covenant film.”
An Alien crossover is intruiging, yet, problematic. This due to the fact that Duke and Gears have lots of aliens while Alien has one type. While that it isn’t impossible to overcome there are other issues. As Alien: Isolation shows, Xenomorph’s are at their best when they’re an unstoppable juggernaught the player has to avoid. This wouldn’t mix well with Duke Nukem or Gears of War’s playstyle.
