Indie darling Lethal Company captivated players with its hysterical gameplay, and the game just got better thanks to challenge moons. These levels provide a unique experience, allowing every player to tackle the same RNG environments and enemies in pursuit of a high score. Though the scrap and obstacles you’ll encounter remain subject to RNG, your friends will now face the same challenges. Randomness and chaos are what make Zeekerss‘s game so compelling, so how does moving toward a more orderly experience keep things fun? Here’s everything you need to know about how challenge moons work in Lethal Company.

Introduced in Version 47 of Lethal Company, challenge moons are unique, replayable moons that rotate weekly. Whereas normal moons use a different random seed for every player, challenge moons use the same random seed for everyone, based on the UTC time zone.

Their names are randomly generated, as are your starting credits and a variety of other properties. These moons also feature increased amounts of scrap. At the end of the day, your profit is uploaded to a leaderboard. This system fosters some friendly competition but is mostly intended to let you share your misery with friends.

You never know which monsters you’ll run into or how things will go. That remains a big part of the Lethal Company experience and is what makes Challenge Moons so exciting. Not everything is random, however. The destination of the Inverse Teleporter, contents of gift boxes, positions of scrap, and positions of lightning strikes are now based on the random seed. This ensures that everyone has an equal chance to thrive or die. To play on a challenge moon, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Go to the main menu
  • Select “Host”
  • Select the randomly named moon on the bottom, below your three save files
