Sometimes, you need to go with the obvious choice, even if you need to go back a few years. Comedy Central is doing that as it has hired Jon Stewart to be the Monday night host of The Daily Show while overseeing the rest of the show until 2025. He will be covering the 2024 U.S. election as he steps back into its most popular era and replaces previous full-timer, Trevor Noah.

A roster of correspondents will come through Tuesday to Thursday with oversight from the Monday night host. Executive producer Jen Flanz will remain in her current position. Coming off this announcement, Jon Stewart made a fun post on X, formerly Twitter, to fans as he wrote, “Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future!”

The Daily Show became a staple for Comedy Central, particularly for millennials, thanks to Jon Stewart. He gave it a voice and personality to set itself apart from any similar shows. He made his exit from the series in 2015. He went on to executive produce The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and helm his Apple TV series The Problem With Jon Stewart, which didn’t gain the traction it expected to.

The last two years have been bumpy for the show. Comedy Central has put in multiple temporary replacements for its previous hosts, including Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones, and Kal Penn. It never worked the same as people liked the comedian, but ultimately, the best choice was to go with the fan-favorite.

Jon Stewart will be a much-needed figure to helm the 2024 run of The Daily Show. Since the 2016 election, U.S. politics have become more toxic every year. The respected host will find a way to navigate the radiated wasteland while being a beacon for fans who jumped ship after his 2015 exit.
