How Does Shifting Work in Persona 3 Reload, Explained

They didn’t see it coming.

We think attacking an enemy when you know that another party member is better equipped to do so is criminal. Not because we are actively not good at whatever game it is, but because… well, yes, because we are not very good. Persona 3 Reload has a neat feature called Shift, which might be familiar to those who have played Persona 5. It’s similar but far more superior in keeping the flow of battle.

How Is Shifting Different Than Baton Passing in Persona 3 Reload?

You can perform a Shift whenever you get a 1 More in the game. A 1 More will happen whenever you hit an enemy’s weak point. Instead of getting a bit of a boost in power for passing the baton of attack to another player, you’re just shifting who is attacking. It’s just a regular attack that’s more in your favor. In our experience, this is far more convenient since it doesn’t disrupt the flow of battle.

We’re big fans of skipping forward during most scenes, which, by default, means that we’re big fans of fast fights. Shifting to other players who can definitely hit an enemy’s weakness helps do just that. The important thing about performing a Shift is that to be successful, you have to know the enemy’s weakness. The other important thing is ensuring that you have a party member with those abilities. If you have multiple Personas with different abilities, then you can take advantage of them when a different party member tries to Shift to you. Pressing the Shift button will automatically shuffle through your Personas to find the one that has the enemy’s weakness.
