Sometimes, people make something they made and can look back on it disappointed. Cillian Murphy has opened up almost 20 years later about Red Eye, a Wes Craven movie he did with Rachel McAdams and Brian Cox. The 2005 thriller followed Lisa (McAdams) on a flight where she met Jackson (Murphy). After charming her, she gets thrust into an assassination he is planning as he has her father kidnapped (Cox) as leverage.

In an interview with GQ, the Oppenheimer star looked back on his career. Normally, he does not always see his movies, like many actors. If he hears poor things, then he skips it. Regardless of reception, Cillian Murphy watched Red Eye and felt it was “a low-tier” entry in his career. The best compliment he gave it was that he found it to be a “good B movie.”

His Mean Girls co-star made much of the experience worth it. The two actors had “fun making it,” despite his feelings toward the film.

At the time, the film was well received. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critic’s score is 80%, with a modest audience score (64%). On a budget of $26 million, it grossed $96 million.

Cillian Murphy has grown beyond what would be expected from his days on Red Eye. The same year, he debuted as Scarecrow in Batman Begins, the first of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. From there, he climbed his way to Oscar-nominee status as he would go off to do Inception, Peaky Blinders, A Quiet Place: Part 2, and last year’s Oppenheimer.

The Academy Awards will be on March 10. Then, we will see if the actor will win his first Oscar for his life-changing role.
