LinkedIn acts as a vital social network for professionals of all kinds, so what happens when the lights go off? Even brief outages and disruptions of the site can have serious repercussions. Employers, would-be job seekers, and many others depend upon the site to find their next financial opportunity. It seems Facebook isn’t the only giant experiencing difficulties, however. Although disruptions to the platform are uncommon, they aren’t unheard of, leading web surfers to the inevitable question: why is Linked-In down and when can service be expected to return?

LinkedIn Server Issues and Outages Explained

The most common reasons for LinkedIn to go down are maintenance, server issues, and outages. Unfortunately, it’s not clear yet whether one of these issues was responsible for today’s outage. It appears based on early reports that the popular social media site is experiencing outages in multiple areas. That seems to include North and South America as well as other regions. Those logging into the site were greeted with a simple yet ominous message: “An error has occurred.” DownDetector has recorded a massive surge in complaints. There have been tens of thousands reporting an inability to connect to the networking giant, so you aren’t alone.

Whether the issue is routine maintenance, an unexpected outage, or something worse, there’s not much that users can do except wait. The recent disruption with Facebook has proven that even the largest and most professional social media outlets aren’t immune to the occasional crash. Today reaffirms that lesson. If yesterday’s multi-hour outage of Facebook and Instagram is anything to go by, LinkedIn will likely be back to normal operation soon. If you’re depending on LinkedIn for crucial business, it’s advisable to keep an eye out for official reports from the site, as service could be returned at any time.
