One Half of ‘Saw Patrol’ Has Overtaken Streaming, But You Won’t Guess Which One

Not many movies can compete with children’s entertainment.

Anyone who’s anyone will remember last September’s major cinematic event, Saw Patrol, which rivaled summer 2023’s other blockbuster showdown, Barbenheimer. For the uninitiated, Saw Patrol and Barbenheimer refers to the two conjoined movie titles, both of which released around the same time and subsequently fought for the attention and revenue of audiences at local movie theaters.

Now that the dust has settled on Saw Patrol, one-half of the infamously juxtaposed duo has found a home on the Top Ten list for Paramount Plus.

Here’s AHhint: It’s Not Saw X

The tenth movie in the Saw franchise, directed by Kevin Greutert, streams almost exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. But the FlixPatrol list were referring to focuses on Paramount Plus, so that means PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie has beat Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Finestkind to comfortably snag the fur-st place.

From a conceptual standpoint, Saw X and PAW Patrol couldn’t be more different. One of them is specifically aimed at children, the other you’d be horrified to find your children watching. But it isn’t overly surprising to find PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie in such a fortunate position. The sequel to PAW Patrol: The Movie resonated with young audiences everywhere to make almost $200 million more than its budget.

The story focuses on Skye, the PAW Patrol’s trusted aviator, after she fuses with a mysterious crystal and gains the ability of flight and super strength. The rest of the Pups also fuse with their respective crystals to gain enhanced powers. With their newfound powers, they take on Victoria Vance, Mayor Humdinger, and the Kitten Catastrophe Crew, who wish to steal the crystals for themselves and harness their magical energy.

Mckenna Grace voices Skye, who takes over from Chase to be the central focus of the plot, most likely given her surge in popularity since the TV series aired. One might argue that she and Chase are the most popular Pups among children, specifically males and females, respectively.

Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is its ability to be entertaining to its target audience while also providing enough entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. That is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why it overtakes Saw X, given the fact that a PG-rated flick can satisfy a lot more people than an R-rated one.

For those interested in the darker side of the coin, Saw X takes place between Saw and Saw II and follows John Kramer shortly after his cancer diagnosis. He travels to Mexico to undergo an experimental procedure that he soon discovers to be an elaborate scam to steal the money of gullible terminal patients. John, enraged by the betrayal, kidnaps all the individuals involved in the scheme and tests their will to live.
