We all know how addictive Bethesda games are, even if we play them on their “vanilla” version. However, those jumping for the tenth time into the Commonwealth might look for ways to spice things up. While you can download hundreds of mods one by one, why not take a look at some of the many Fallout 4 collections out there? These bundles include many mods in one package that are ready for you to install for your next playthrough. So, if you’re looking for the best, we’ve narrowed down the best five you can get for your new adventure.

The Best 5 Mod Collections for Fallout 4 in 2024

Before we start this list, a disclaimer is in order. When installing any mod collection for Fallout 4, I recommend doing it on a clean install. If you leave a few mods lying around, it might jeopardize your playthrough, and nothing hurts in this life more than losing hundreds of hours of playtime by a loose plugin that crashes your game. Furthermore, these collections are curated well enough, so you don’t have to add any other modifications. If you do, do so at your own risk.

5. FO4 Essentials

We’ll kick off the list with one mod collection that isn’t too invasive for Fallout 4 players. The FO4 Essentials package brings a bunch of easy-to-install utilities for any playthrough. Instead of focusing on cosmetic items, new quests, and overhauls, it just fixes many of the Bethesda shenanigans we see in most of the company’s titles.

The reason why we think it is important to include this is because, regardless of your playthrough, it is crucial to have some fixes to make your journey more enjoyable. This collection includes mods such as the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch, Buffout 4, and many more. If you’re interested in it, you head to Nexus Mods to grab it.

4. Life in the Ruins

While we are accustomed to Nexus Mods, Wabbajack has made a huge name by itself as another worthy mod manager. Even if the site doesn’t have as many modifications as Nexus, it has plenty of packages that can make your subsequent playthroughs more interesting. The first one we’ll feature is Life in the Ruins, which turns the game into a true survival experience with low resources and adds other dangers to the Commonwealth.

This collection aims to turn Fallout 4 into a more realistic experience with its mods. It balances many combat elements by removing the bullet-spongy feeling of foes and instead makes the game hard by reducing resources. It feels like combining The Last of Us with Project Zomboid, and I feel it is the best collection for survival enthusiasts. You can grab the package here.

3. Such Fallout 4

We return to Nexus with Such Fallout 4. This package reinvents the vanilla experience by expanding upon settlements, main cities, and other core systems. It adds enough new things to make a playthrough feel fresh but also leaves most of the base game’s quests intact to preserve that lore-friendly feel.

One thing to remember is that this collection adds many visual overhauls, which might not be ideal for low-end rigs. While you can choose some ENB presets to tailor your experience, it can take a toll on your hardware. Still, this package brings nice additions to the game that are worth experiencing. Follow this link to get the mods.

2. Magnum Opus

Instead of focusing on one aspect of the game or trying to go for one aesthetic, Magnum Opus just throws a bunch of Fallout 4 mods into this collection. It isn’t too lore-friendly, but it is one big package full of fun modifications for any player.

You can expect a lot of armor mods, weapons, new NPCs, new quests, locales, and much more. It is one of the most expansive overhauls out there and it changes almost every aspect from Fallout 4. I recommend this for players who don’t really care about keeping an aesthetic when playing and just want to see anything ranging from the realistic to the ridiculous (in a good way.) You can grab this collection from Wabbajack’s website.

1. A Storywealth

The winner of this list, and then one we don’t see leaving the top spot anytime soon, is A Storywealth. This is the king of all overhauls, and with good reason. It adds over 25 questlines to the game. I’m not talking about single quests. No. We have full new storylines for players to follow that fit perfectly into the game. Beyond that, this is the most active collection on Nexus that gets constant updates and is always curated for a smooth ride.

The only caveat regarding this package is that you must download over 100 gigabytes of mods, making it quite hefty. If you are not a Nexus premium member, downloading every modification will take hours or even days. However, the wait is worth it. Even if it is your first playthrough, I recommend trying this collection because it expands and improves upon every aspect of this title. You can get it here.

As always, if you’re installing mods, do so safely with a mod manager. Changing so many aspects of Fallout 4 can cause problems, and it is better to back everything up unless you want to lose hours of progress. But once you master how modding works, prepare for one of the biggest adventures ever in this nuclear wasteland.
