It’s not a surprise that tech giants like Samsung continuously work on design innovations for their smartphones.
It has become difficult to impress users with fixed-screen smartphones. Therefore, tech companies are focusing on foldable and rollable display smartphones.
We expect to see the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 released this summer; both designs have already been leaked.
However, we’re continuing to collaborate with David from @xleaks7 and were able to spot the PATENT that sheds some light on the future design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphone.
Extendable screen and portability
Based on a leaked design in the patent, the future Galaxy Z Flip smartphone may feature only an external display that can extend.
Traditional smartphones with fixed screens can be bulky or have limited size screens; therefore, users demand more portable smartphones with large screens.
The new design will solve the problem.
When folded, the smartphone is extremely portable and can easily fit in any pocket. However, the unfolded and extended screen provided full functionality to its users.
Design
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip consists of three housings and a flexible display.
The first housing is connected to the second housing, which can rotate around a folding axis, just like a standard Z Flip smartphone we currently see on the market.
The third housing can slide towards or away from the folding axis. The flexible display is designed to move across these housings, allowing the screen area to be extended or retracted.
This design allows the device to change its form, providing different configurations for various uses.
No Internal Display
The new design will only feature an external display. There will be no internal display like on current Z Flip smartphones.
When unfolded, only the front side will have a display.
Benefits for Users
This patented design will offer three main benefits to the users:
- Portability: The device can be compact when needed and expand when a larger screen is required, making it easier to carry and use on the go
- Convenience: The independent folding and sliding mechanisms allow users to adjust the device according to their needs, whether for work, entertainment, or communication, improving the overall user experience
- Price: The part of the main screen will work as an external screen when folded. This means that the smartphone will have only one display instead of two like in all Z Flip smartphones released up to this date. This solution should reduce the manufacturing cost
Future
As this technology develops, we can expect to see more innovative designs of future smartphones.
Samsung may eventually decide to merge its foldable and rollable lines if users show more interest in one or another feature.
This patent lays the groundwork for a new generation of gadgets that are super portable and functional.
