We here at The Nerd Stash tend to quite like Alan Wake – the creepy atmosphere, unique combat mechanics, and the mind-bending story made for quite an interesting playthrough. If you’ve never gotten around to picking up Alan Wake, this weekend is the last time you’ll be able to do so: the game is being pulled from both Steam and Xbox Live after May 15th due to an expiring music license.

However, there is some good news coming from the game being pulled. The game’s studio, Remedy Entertainment, announced that this weekend they will be holding “Alan Wake’s Sunset Sale,” where the game will be discounted a massive 90% on Steam. That means the normal price of $29.99 will be knocked back to $2.99.

Each episode of Alan Wake ends with a licensed song that fits the theme and mood of the preceding events. Artists like Roy Orbison, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Poe, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have songs in the game. This news seems to indicate that some, if not all of the songs, were purchased on a seven-year license. No word on if Remedy Entertainment will try to renew the licenses or just let the game ride off into the sunset. I personally think that Alan would have wanted it that way.

The final trips to the town of Bright Falls are going to get a serious discount this weekend.

If you already own Alan Wake, fear not! The game will no longer be sold, but it will remain in your library if you already purchased it. If you don’t, it goes on sale tomorrow morning. You should pick it up: grabbing this gem for $3.00 will net you hours of entertainment.

Going to pick up Alan Wake this weekend? Which song do you think is most effective to end an episode? Let us know in the comments below.
