Official Japanese Street Fighter 6 Tournament Requires Players Sleep Enough To Promote a Sleep Drug

Hadocan’t… Gotta sleep

From Street Fighter to Sleep Fighter, thatโ€™s the theme of the official Street Fighter 6 tournament in Japan that will punish players if they donโ€™t get enough sleep. Capcom is officially supporting the Sleep Fighter tournament which is being done in partnership with SS Pharmaceuticals to promote Drewell, a drug for sleep disorders.

It will be a team-based event in which each team will consist of 3 players and will fight in a best-of-three setting to get points. The more points a team has, the more likely it will move on to the next round. But that isnโ€™t the only way of getting points, as there will be Sleep Points as well.

If youโ€™ve ever been in a fighting game tournament, you know that sleep isnโ€™t much of a priority as brackets can go on for hours. And almost everyone with a long run is sleep-deprived. This tournament wants to do the exact opposite of that.

Each player needs to get over 6 hours of sleep for an entire week before the tournament, this means 42 hours per player and 126 hours per team. Any team that doesnโ€™t meet the limit will lose points depending on how many hours they were short by. Each hour costs 5 points, so players better get some naps in before entering the tournament.

This entire tournament is mainly to raise awareness about sleep problems and to encourage people to take care of their sleep routines. We spend over โ…“ of our lives in bed, and thereโ€™s a reason for that. Sleep isnโ€™t just for recovery from fatigue, it is also important if we want to function at our best level.

Street Fighter 6 has a lot of tournaments in Japan, and this one has an interesting take. Most players are currently not in Japan, so it will be interesting to see who makes it in. Players from all over the world are currently gathering at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh so soon after Evo. There, the winner of the SF6 tournament will get $1 million, so the competition is extremely tough.
