Ben and Jennifer’s love story dates back two decades. Their on-and-off romance left many of their fans pulling for them. So when the two found their way back to each other in 2021, Jennifer Lopez was so blinded by Ben Affleck’s love that she messed up in a big way and skipped the prenup.
Of course, at the time, JLo loved and trusted Ben so profoundly that she never would have guessed they would be heading to divorce court only two years into their marriage. Jen’s prenup mistake could cost half the $80 million fortune she acquired during their marriage.
Ben Affleck Could Take Jennifer Lopez To The Cleaners
Family law attorney Andrew Zashin spoke with The Sun and walked them through a possible divorce scenario between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Since Lopez is worth four times more than her estranged spouse, this could pose quite a financial problem for Jennifer.
“Without a prenup all of the earnings earned during the marriage could be considered ‘marital property,’ or ‘community property,’ and each party would have a 50-50 stake in them.
“Both Jennifer and Ben are high-net-worth individuals, meaning there are substantial assets (she is worth approximately $400 million and he is worth approximately $160 million) to be divided as they terminate their marriage.”
When asked if Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce settlement could be a long and drawn-out process, Andrew Zashin stated, “The timeline of divorce has no guarantees, but if they agree on everything, it could be a quick process. Divorce is a grieving process. Even if they are ready to move on, it can weigh on them emotionally.”
Jennifer Lopez has also decided to keep the engagement ring given to her by Ben Affleck. The ring is reportedly valued at $5 million. So Ben will likely demand Jennifer return the ring if arguments break out over money. JLo has allegedly yet to return an engagement ring from her past relationships. She has collected six over the years, two from Affleck.
Considering how hurt Jennifer Lopez is over her failed marriage to Ben Affleck, things may not go smoothly during settlement negotiations. As previously reported, JLo has tried numerous times to work things out with Ben. However, Affleck reportedly was uninterested in reconciling. They have a long way to go before the divorce drama ends, and things could turn ugly.
