Besides building New London, another important mechanic in Frospunk 2 is exploring the freezing wilderness called Frostland. Although Earth has become hostile to humans, there are still many resources that you can use to power up your generator and fulfill your citizens’ needs. Not only that, since you will be lacking Coal deposits in your surroundings, you must quickly find the location of a permanent source of fuel to survive the upcoming Whiteout.

You can unlock Frostland exploration during Chapter 1 after you become the steward of New London. Your primary task will be to find Oil deposits in the wilderness, and you must begin venturing into the frozen unknown.

To access this mechanic, you have to build Logistics Districts on the compass icons on the edge of the region. There are three of them near New London, and you need these resources to build one District:

  • 400 Workforce
  • 40 Heatstamps
  • 200 Prefabs

Each Logistics District will give you 15 Frostland Teams. Building one will be enough initially, but you eventually want to create and expand the three districts to get more teams.

How To Reduce Frostland Dangers

When you can access the overworld map, you will quickly realize that many regions in Frostland are dangerous. Although you can still send your exploration team to these areas, you will likely lose some people during the expedition.

If you want to reduce the danger level in Frostland, you have to upgrade your Logistic Districts. You must research new buildings in the Idea Tree and unlock the Survivalistโ€™s Headquarters. This upgrade is locked behind the Scoutsโ€™ Headquarters node in the Frostland section.

I highly recommend researching this idea as soon as possible so you can fully explore all areas. This upgrade will also be necessary during Chapter 3 since you must find the Winterhome, which is located deep within a hazardous area. The good news is that you only have to make one building to reduce the danger level.

Outposts & Colonies

Regardless of your gameplay decisions, you will likely stay in New London for a while. Although this region has ample resources, you may find yourself in deficit as your population grows. Besides building more Districts, you can also make outposts and small colonies in Frostland.

After performing an expedition in an area, you can reveal all the resources in that region. While some can only be harvested once, there are some places where you can place outposts to gain a steady source of resources. Of course, on rare occasions, you can even build colonies, such as Old Dreadnought and Winterhome.

Obviously, you can’t just order your Frostland Teams to go back and forth indefinitely. You must build a Trail that will allow you to transfer resources. Of course, you still need to spend materials and time to establish a new path. Note that the amount of resources you require will depend on the distance between the outpost and your settlement.
