One of the biggest and most challenging dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio is the Dragon Temple. At first, it seems like the classic fantasy dungeon, but it becomes something much grander as you delve deeper. Also, it has so many floors, corridors, and mechanics that it might be overwhelming and tiring for some players. So, if you’re struggling to reach the end of this maze-like instance, we’ve prepared a guide to help you overcome this dungeon and the foes that inhabit it.
Preparing for the Dungeon
As soon as you reach Virga Island, you’ll get a bit of time to purchase things around the town. It is imperative that you bring as many of the following:
- MP Restoration items (Magla Pills, Magla Potions, etc.)
- You can’t purchase these ones, but if you have a few, save them until the latter parts of the dungeon.
- Purchase weapons that are effective against Plant-type enemies.
- If you head inside the weapon/armor shop, you’ll see there are a few weapons that are strong against Plant-type enemies. Purchase at least two of them. I recommend one for Warrior/Swordmaster/Samurai and one for Thief/Assassin/Ninja.
- For Archetypes, choose the following:
- Protagonist: Samurai/Swordmaster. Inherit formation skills from Commander.
- Hulkenberg: Magic Knight. Inherit Ice and Electric spells from Mage/Wizard.
- Strohl: Pugilist. Inherit as many skills as you can from Brawler.
- Heismay: Assassin. Inherit Perfect Punch from Brawler and Sleep Shot from Gunner.
- Junah: Masked Dancer. Use the Mage’s Mask.
- If possible, purchase as many Fairy Dust items as possible for AoE heals and status ailment recovery potions. You’ll encounter enemies that can inflict you with Hex, Burn, and Poison.
Entering the Dragon Temple
Before you head into the Dragon Temple, I can’t stress enough that this is one of the longest dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Furthermore, it has enemies with high HP, hard-hitting moves, and other exploration gimmicks that can put you in a tough spot. So, if possible, do a save file before boarding the Gauntlet Runner, another outside of the temple, and the normal one you use to save your game. Once your Archetypes are read, let’s head inside.
Finding the Polar Stones
One quest that might be confusing inside the Dragon Temple is the one that tasks you with finding the Polar Stones for the Mustari person in Vigra Island. The quest mentions all stones are at the entrance of the temple, but that’s not right. One definitely is at the entrance, while the other two are in the maze. While you only need one to finish the quest, finding all three will give you a larger reward. Assuming you’re exploring the maze, you’ll find the stones in the following places:
- The first one is quite easy to find, and you can’t miss it. Before entering the Labyrinthine Path, take a right, defeat the wasps, and grab the Polar Stone; it is behind a few breakable jars.
- The second is at the entrance of the Labyrinthine Path to the left, between the second and third set of stairs from right to left. We’ve marked the location on the above image.
- The third one is at the end of the Labyrinthine Path. When facing the exit, turn left and then right again to find the final Polar Stone. You can use the above image as a reference.
Exploring the Labyrinthine Path
Before finding the Polar Stones, you need to make your way through the maze inside the Dragon Temple, which is a new exploration mechanic in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Exploring it isn’t challenging as long as you remember that if the fog gets thick, you’re going in the wrong way. This means that if you go down or up specific stairs and the screen gets cloudy, you need to turn back. To make the route easier for you, you can use the below image:

Before moving on to the next part of the dungeon, here is the loot you can find inside and outside the maze:

Drakongrace [REDACTED]
I do not want to spoil the full name of this area because it is quite a surprise and will shock many. Instead, I’ll limit myself to listing the loot, a few of the enemy strategies, and certain tips to overcome specific puzzles. Also, most enemies here are weak to Fire, Wind, and Electric Magic as well as Slice and Strike attacks. So, without further ado, let’s begin.
A Bounty of Relics
This zone is pretty straightforward. You’ll encounter a Magla Hollow you can use to rest and save your progress and speak with your allies for some information.
The new exploration gimmick relies on the Ear Human creatures of this area. You’ll see them roaming a red path like in the above image. The thing you need to remember here is that they move at the same time as you but only inside the red area. You can move to the sides, front and back, or run in circles, but the enemy will stick to that red area; remember this.
There isn’t a lot to do here, but following the main path. Once you arrive at the elevator, ride it to the next area.
The Steel Rendezvous
This floor is a bit convoluted to explore, with most of it requiring you to lock Ear Humans behind some doors and avoid them by using contraptions. The puzzles aren’t too challenging, but in case any of these creatures catch you, they are weak to Electric Magic. As long as you spam that and stay in the back row, you’ll be good.
For example, in the above image, you can see the human moving from one side of the room to another. There is also a lever on the wall you can pull to lock the human behind a door and let you roam freely. Most of the puzzles here will have the same gimmick, so pull levers whenever you see them. Again, all of them are quite easy to solve, so there is no need to delve into them more than that.
Ghost Town of Dreams
As long as you follow the corridors leading to stairs or elevators, you should find yourself in this last area. Here, the dungeon gets more difficult as all enemies are between levels 41 and 45, with the latter being the strongest. Thankfully, humans are quite weak. The Golden Human Teeth are resistant to everything but have a weak defense. Spam AoE attacks on them. Humans with a frying pan are weak against slice attacks, so use your normal attacks from all your Archetypes on them. Finally, the egg-like creatures are weak to Strike attacks, so swap Junah with Strohl and spam his Pugilist skills on them.
After finishing this area and powering up the elevator, you’ll need to defeat the real Ear Human. Since it moves fast, you’ll have to lock it inside a room so you can catch it. I did this by activating the gates to the far right and left of the room. This creature is weak to Electric Magic. You can use Hulkenberg’s Synthesis skill to do damage. Once that’s done, return to the first floor to proceed.
The Moment of Epiphany and Boss Fight
This area is quite short compared to others, so focus only on the loot, defeating enemies if you want to level up, and move on to the final area. Regarding your party’s MP, you should get a Divine Elixir before the final fight, so use it outside of the Magla Hollow to restore your group’s MP.
Drako Eht Fight
Drako Eht is the final boss of the Dragon Temple in Metaphor: ReFantazio and, oddly, isn’t anywhere as strong as other foes you encountered in the dungeon. It is weak to Wind Magic, and luckily for you, the new Archetype you’ll unlock has strong Wind Magic, so spam those skills to bring it down. I recommend using the Samurai’s Synthesis skill, which does Wind damage. At one moment, the rider will siphon health from the Dragon. It won’t be much, so keep spamming your magic until the enemy is defeated. Once defeated, you’ll obtain the following:
- 6,900 EXP.
- 828 A-EXP.
- 4,500 MAG.
- 3,500 Reeve (Money).

As you can see, exploring the Dragon Temple in Metaphor: ReFantazio is quite the endeavor. However, it has some of the best loot in the game and many items that will let you prepare for late-game fights. So, don’t be afraid to delve into this twisted location and put everything you’ve learned throughout your journey when facing all the foes inside it.
