The video game industry is about to grow even bigger in Southeast Asia as Gamescom Asia breaks a new record for its number of attendees. Last week, the tally grew to a whopping 41,013 people, which marked a 20 percent increase compared to the 2023 audience. Additionally, the number of exhibitors has also increased this year to 177 from 136 back in 2023.

This has been quite a milestone for the games industry, especially for Gamescom’s satellite event. Gamescom Asia takes place in Singapore and is attended by participants from Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, and even the US.

It’s mainly a business-to-business conference that connects developers to publishers or other companies that can provide or promise new tech for video game development.

“We are thrilled to see how quickly the gaming ecosystem in Asia is evolving, and we are proud to provide a platform that fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration. As this year has proven, Gamescom Asia has established itself as an important meeting point for the Asian gaming industry with other regions,” according to Project Director Daria La Valle.

Promising Future Ahead for the Asian Video Game Market

Furthermore, Daria La Valle has expressed excitement at Southeast Asia being a driving force in the future of gaming. She has also lauded the creativity and innovation of indie developers and even AAA studios and publishers like Capcom and PlayStation.

One of the biggest guests for Gamescom Asia this year is none other than Shawn Layden, Sony’s former executive. Layden has expressed a bit of disappointment over the state of AAA games and believes that the industry is stifling creativity with its necessity to play it safe.

With the success of Gamescom Asia 2024, it’s expected to bring in even more participants, attendees, and exhibitors next year. This early on, the organizers have already announced Gamescom Asia 2025, which will run from October 30 to November 2.
