General Hospital has killed off another beloved character. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Sam McCall died following surgery to donate her liver to Lulu Spencer. Although the surgery was a success, and Sam seemed fine afterwards things took a turn for the worse when she crashed. Despite the doctors’ efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead. It was a tearjerker moment and joins the list of these emotional deaths in the soap opera’s history.
General Hospital Fans Mourned Kiki’s Death Along With Ava
In 2018, Maura West delivered a powerhouse performance when Ava Jerome’s daughter Kiki Jerome was murdered. Upon hearing the news of Kiki’s death Ava was in denial, but arriving at the crime scene, reality began to set in. When Ava unzipped the body bag, confirming it was Kiki, her mind still couldn’t process the sad truth. “Wake up,” Ava gently begged then screamed, hoping this was a cruel prank. When the realization finally hit, Ava collapsed into tears on top of her daughter’s body.
Emily’s Murder Rocked the Quartermaine Family
Emily was a popular heroine and a member of the prominent Quartermaine family. Sadly, her life was cut short in 2007. Emily and her ex-husband Nikolas Cassadine had just reunited and gotten engaged. They hosted a ball celebrating their engagement, but the joyous occasion turned to tragedy. During the festivities, Nikolas blacked out and when he awakened, he discovered Emily’s lifeless body. A grief-stricken Nikolas cradled Emily in his arms, refusing to let anyone touch her. Nikolas was so overcome with emotion that he had to be sedated so the doctors could remove Emily’s body.
Emily’s brother Jason Morgan, who was also at the scene, remained strong while dealing with his inner grief. Jason had the difficult job of delivering the news of her death to his family, who’d already suffered one tragedy.
Georgie’s Life Ended Too Soon
As the daughter of Frisco and Felicia Jones, Georgie Jones is a legacy character. General Hospital fans watched her and her sister Maxie grow up onscreen. The sisters had a close bond, and Georgie’s last moments were spent trying to protect Maxie. Maxie had become the latest target of The Text Message Killer, and Georgie feared for her sister’s safety. When the killer sent Maxie another text, Georgie intercepted it and went to the park to capture the culprit, but was strangled to death.
Georgie’s death sent shockwaves across Port Charles and devastated her stepfather Mac Scorpio and boyfriend Spinelli. Maxie took it the hardest and lashed out at everyone, including her mother Felicia, who returned for Georgie’s funeral.
Quartermaine Patriarch Alan’s Tragic Demise
The Quartermaine family has suffered many tragedies throughout the years. In February 2007, they mourned the unexpected death of Alan. The highly-regarded doctor and several other Port Charles residents are held hostage by Jerry Jacks at the Metro Court. While in captivity, Alan suffers a heart attack, but Jerry refused to let him go. When Alan is finally rescued he’s rushed to the hospital and undergoes surgery. However, efforts to save him are futile. He shares a tender, final moment with his wife Monica before he passes away.
B.J.’s Death is One of General Hospital’s Most Heartbreaking Storylines
General Hospital has written many emotional stories, but none were more heartbreaking than B.J. Jones’ death. The young girl’s life was tragically cut short when her school van was involved in a crash. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was later declared brain dead. Tony Jones and Bobbie Spencer suffered every parent’s worst nightmare as they said goodbye to their daughter.
The couple then made the decision to let B.J.’s heart be donated to her cousin Maxie, who needed a transplant. One of the most touching moments is when Tony lays his head on Maxie’s chest to listen to his daughter’s heartbeat. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as everyone said goodbye to precious B.J.
