Bette Midler isn’t having a great reaction to the 2024 Presidential Election results. After a day of voting, Donald Trump emerged as the winner, defeating Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party. Following the results, Midler went on a rant slamming Americaโs incoming 47th president before making a dramatic exit.
The Hocus Pocus star took to X, owned by Elon Musk โone of Trumpโs biggest supporters โ to rant. She shared a quote from late journalist H.L. Mencken that expressed her disapproval. It read, โWhen a candidate for public office faces the voters, he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental โ men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand.โ
The quote continued, describing candidates like Trump as โmost devious and mediocreโ men with minds like a โvirtual vacuum.โ Taking a jab at MAGA voters and their candidate, the actress wrote:
“As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heartโs desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.โ
Midler signed off in the most dramatic way, deleting her account from X.

Midler, a staunch Democratic, was one of the loud supporters of the Harris-Walz ticket to the White House. Daily Mail reports that before the elections, she uploaded a photo of a bottle of champagne with a sticky note that read โIf Kamala wins.โ Alongside it was a bottle of Drano drain cleaner with a note that read, โIf Trump wins.โ She was also heavily critical when he simulated oral sex on a microphone stand at one of his campaigns.
She mocked the viral moment, writing, โUGH! Looks like somebodyโs getting ready to try to win the popular voteโฆin prison.โ Unfortunately, Midler deactivating her X account has only left Trump fans elated.
