Over the years, the American Idol alum has been very candid about her personal life. She’s dished on everything from her divorce to her incredible weight loss. Now, she’s opening up about how her children feel about her love life, including what they say to her about the possibility of dating.
During a recent appearance on KOST 103.5, Kelly Clarkson admitted that her two children, River, 10, and Remington, 8, basically beg her not to date anyone. The singer shares the children with her former husband, Brandon Blackstock, whom she divorced in 2020 after seven years of marriage, per E! News.
Clarkson admitted that it’s heartbreaking that her kids can’t see her with anyone but their father. However, she understands how their young minds work. Instead, she tries to explain to them that she needs love too.

“They constantly bring it up, ‘Please, we don’t want you with anybody else,’” Kelly said during the interview. “They’re young, it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.”
Thankfully for the talk show host, she doesn’t mind being single. She has revealed that she actually thrives on her own. Of course, that doesn’t mean she wants to be alone. She’s just currently not looking for anything serious at the moment.
Clarkson says that she’s not really the type to date around, but she’s not opposed to love. However, she doesn’t want to have to commit to anything during this stage in her life. Unfortunately, she joked that she’s a “magnet” for people who are looking to settle down quickly.
“I’ve got a lot on my plate,” she continued. “I’m a magnet for people who are really all-in right off the bat. It’s not that I’m the type to go and kiss a bunch of people, I just don’t—I’m very noncommittal at the moment.”
For now, Kelly Clarkson says her main focus in life is her two children. She wants to enjoy every moment of their childhood as they are growing up so quickly before her eyes. She says she knows that River and Remington will soon be old enough that they won’t want her around anymore. Because of this, she’s doing all she can to enjoy them before they head off to live their own lives.
“I love how brutally honest Kelly is. Dating when you have kids is very difficult,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
Perhaps when Clarkson’s kids get older she’ll be more willing to commit to someone and try another serious relationship. However, for now she seems very content with being single and finding her fun wherever she can.
With all of her commitments for work and with parenting, it looks like Kelly Clarkson has plenty to keep her busy. As a present parent, there always seems to be something to do. She’s definitely in demand. However, fans are rooting for her to find her happy ending whenever she feels ready to do so.
