Call of Duty Is Gaslighting Players to Explain its Poor Netcoding

Gaslighting at its peak

Ever since the beta, we’ve been saying that Black Ops 6 is so much fun with all its new movement mechanics, visuals, guns, killstreaks, everything. However, we’ve also been addressing an issue that’s been choking the fun in Black Ops 6, which has something to do with the bad servers of Call of Duty and the netcoding. But instead of directly addressing the problem and fixing it, I saw an update from Call of Duty today that I’m still not convinced how on earth they haven’t removed it from the internet yet.

The Call of Duty Updates account on X has published a new post addressing “an issue that could result in erroneous visual blood effects when damage was not actually dealt while shooting at enemies in all modes.” While on the one hand, it’s great the dev team has acknowledged the issue, to me as a player, the messaging here sounds weird.

We've identified an issue that could result in erroneous visual blood effects when damage was not actually dealt while shooting at enemies in all modes.

There are a ton of videos in the comments section showcasing how this statement reads like “gaslighting.” I have personally experienced the issue firsthand and watched many times players aim accurately but the hit is not registered. It’s so intense that some players are even calling it “skill-based hit reg.” They’re implying Call of Duty detects players with a high K/D ratio, and then it marks their accounts so that some of their shots are not registered even when they’re clearly not missing their target.

“Skill-based damage. Until someone proves it wrong with evidence I will believe it’s in the game. Just so much footage on bo6 that I have a hard time believing that it’s not in the game.” Others believe that Activision better remove this post saying “Are you being for real? Like genuinely? YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO DELETE THIS.”

For me, that’s a little too far-fetched. I think more likely the Call of Duty servers and netcoding are the ones to blame here. Either way, fans aren’t happy. Here’s hoping it’s fixed soon.

Amir is an absolute Call of Duty nerd, preferring shooter games more than everything. However, he does like to do uppercuts in Mortal Kombat and feel the NOS going through the engines in Need For Speed games.
