Suri Cruise will likely never have to worry about money a day in her adult life. Not that she would have anyway. But after being estranged from her father, Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, she will gain access to a massive amount of cash. However, many wonder what type of strings and conditions access may entail for the 18-year-old college student.
Following Dawson’s Creek alum Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s divorce in 2012, the couple’s only daughter, Suri Cruise, became estranged from her famous father. Numerous rumors about why Tom seemingly cut ties with his young daughter began circulating.
One rumor claimed that as a devoted member of the Church of Scientology, the church mandates not being in contact with loved ones who do not share his beliefs. In a 2013 deposition, Cruise allegedly admitted that his links with Scientology had played a big part in his estrangement from Suri. At one point, he even landed in hot water with the church. He also said that Holmes had filed for divorce “to protect Suri from Scientology.”
Recent reports indicate that Tom Cruise has yet to make an effort to see Suri Cruise. In fact, it has been more than 12 years. The reports also reveal that, as far as Suri is concerned, Tom no longer exists to her. She has zero interest in ever reconnecting with him.
However, things could change soon, that is, if Tom Cruise has anything to do with it. This leaves many fans asking if Tom gifted Suri Cruise the money to draw her back into his life.
Sources tell the Daily Mail that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s 2012 divorce documents state that Tom would set up a trust fund for Suri Cruise. In which she would be permitted to access at age 18. There is at least one stipulation, according to the source. However, at 18, Suri would only be allowed to access a predetermined portion of the trust and the rest at age 30.
During Suri’s childhood and until age 18, Tom Cruise paid Katie Holmes $400,000 per year in child support. He was also deemed responsible for all of Suri’s health care, dental, insurance, education, college, and extracurricular costs. Tom also forked over $65k for Suri Cruise’s yearly tuition costs for the first year at Carnegie Mellon University.
Tom Cruise Attempts to Lure Suri Cruise Back Into His Life
The Cruise source states, “Tom is indeed paying for Suri’s tuition. He has always paid for her schooling and would never stop as he is a stand-up guy. He has never hesitated paying his daughter’s child support and expenses. Tom does not go back on his word. He is fulfilling his obligation.” Suri supporters have flooded the comment section at DM with their strong thoughts and opinions.
“Suri has never really known her father,” writes one. “Saying that he has fulfilled his obligations is such a cold way of putting it. As if throwing cash at his daughter makes him any less of a deadbeat for not having anything to do with her,” adds another. “Money will never replace a father. Shame on Tom for refusing to be in her life. She should have something from him,” one more chimes in.
However, fulfilling his ‘obligation‘ and the trust fund to his daughter may not be enough to bring the estranged pair together again. Katie Holmes has provided Suri with a nice life as well. While growing up, Katie was the person Suri Cruise knew she could always depend on.
Tom has indicated high hopes of reconnecting with Suri Cruise once she is an adult. It seems Suri looks to feel otherwise. During Suri’s high school graduation ceremony, Tom bailed on his daughter’s big day to attend a Taylor Swift Eras Concert.
Suri sent a clear, unmistakable message during her graduation ceremony about where she stands with her dad, Tom. Suri has opted to ditch her famous father’s last name. When Suri was called to receive her diploma, they did not call Suri Cruise to the stage. Instead, they called Suri Noelle. This name change is significant as it reflects Suri’s desire to distance herself from her father. It also serves as a respectful shoutout to her mom, Katie, whose middle name is Noelle.
Somewhere down the line, things could change between Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise. Many believe it is doubtful and feel it would be a real shock. However, stranger things have happened.
