Pregnant Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has repeatedly addressed her days as a victim of Munchausen by proxy. However, she is sharing her story in a new format with her tell-all memoir My Time to Stand. The book, co-authored by Melissa Moore and Michele Matrisciani, will be available from BenBella Books on December 10. Gypsy-Rose explained that putting her life on paper was a โnerve-wracking,โ โstressful,โ and vulnerable project. Despite the challenges, it brought her โa lot of pride and joy to have this exciting moment.โ
The memoir captured her reflecting on her post-prison life and why she murdered her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. She conspired with her ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill Dee Dee, who suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy. In an exclusive extended excerpt of her memoir, Gypsy-Rose noted that her mother saw her life as theirs. She claimed the matriarch believed they were โinseparable,โ calling them โtwo sides of the same penny.โ
With that belief, Dee Dee forced her daughter into a life of unnecessary medical procedures. She, per Gypsy-Roseโs claims, controlled every aspect of her life until she could no longer stomach the abuse. Despite escaping the matriarchโs possessiveness by doing the unthinkable, the trauma remained, with the media personality writing:
โWhile a year has passed since my release from prison, my scars, both emotional and physical, remain. The physical scars are like track marks that mock my progress.โ
โIโm not saying I canโt heal; what I am saying is that the physical representation of my trauma just adds another dimension to the healing process,โ Gypsy-Rose added. She noted that her past would always be a part of her present. However, her scars would only have grown if she never asked her ex-boyfriend to kill her mother, per PEOPLE.
What Pushed Gypsy-Rose Blanchard To Kill Her Mother?
After years of abuse, Gypsy-Rose started fighting back against her mother in her 20s. She ran away from home twice and even shot Dee Dee with a BB gun, leading to her confinement. But getting chained to the bed did not push the former convict into killing her mother. Gypsy-Rose revealed the final straw was the matriarchโs plans for her voice.
Dee Dee allegedly attempted to secure her control over Gypsy-Rose by forcing her into an unnecessary operation. She told doctors there was something wrong with her daughterโs squeaky voice, and it was causing her sleep apnea. However, Gypsy-Rose knew her voice was distinct, while Dee Deeโs antics caused her sleep apnea.
โBy speaking for me and scripting my every interaction, she deprived me of finding my own voice. Now, the way I saw it, my literal voice, squeaky as it might be, could be taken from me. Her final play,โ Gypsy-Rose penned. With Dee Dee out of the picture, Gypsy-Rose has regained her freedom and found happiness with Ken Urker. We covered that the couple were expecting their first child together, a daughter fans were concerned about.
However, the soon-to-be mom assured them there was no reason to worry about her child not having a grandmother. Before her death, Dee Deeโs husband, Rod Blanchard, divorced her and married Kristy. The latter not only became Gypsy Roseโs stepmom but the mother she always needed. โKristy has become more of a mother to me than my own mother was. Kristy is going to be grandma,โ the former convict said on The Viall Files in October.
