Drew Barrymore Wants Guests ‘More Comfortable With Physical Touch’ Despite Being Told to ‘Back Off!’: ‘She Needs to Respectfully Take Heed’

She’s not backing down

Drew Barrymore seems to have learned nothing from her saga with Martha Stewart. A month after making headlines for being too touchy with her guests, the talk show host revealed her desire to get physical with people hasn’t changed despite receiving warnings.

Barrymore made the confession on Tuesday’s episode of her hit show, The Drew Barrymore Show, while interviewing Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo. The pair discussed Erivo’s touchy ways with co-star Ariana Grande, which has taken over the Internet, resulting in a slew of memes. “Is it true that she is as touchy?” Barrymore asked Erivo about Grande before admitting she was guilty of the same thing.

“I’m so touchy! People have to warn me. They’re like, ‘Back off a little bit.’ I’m like, “Why?'”

Erivo, who stars as Elphaba, agreed with Barrymore, admitting she is “used to” Grande’s constant physical touch. “We walk hand in hand very often. Like, if we’re not walking hand in hand, we’ll find each other somewhere,” she revealed. However, while the rest of the world might find their connection weird, the British native disagrees. She told the host:

“I think we assume that physical connection can only be romantic. However we need to communicate is how we need to communicate. And I think we don’t give enough credit to how we need to communicate with our friends physically.”

She then went ahead and explained ways she and Grande communicated with touch. Sometimes, it is a “squeeze of a hand or a pinch of the finger,” Erivo said, per Page Six.

Fans Accuse Drew Barrymore Of Not Acknowledging ‘Courtesy of Consent’

Drew Barrymore completely agreed with Erivo’s sentiment, revealing that she wants a world where people “could all be more comfortable with physical touch.” The Charlie’s Angels star has been heavily criticized for being too affectionate with her guests. The latest scandal involved business magnate Stewart. During an awkward sit-down, the ladies discussed what made Stewart “soft and gooey. However, Barrymore got too into the flirty conversation and proceeded to move closer to touch the cooking personality. Stewart was clearly not a fan of it, pushing her away before saying, “You’re the wrong gender.”

Despite the backlash received, it is clear Barrymore would prefer not to change her touchy ways, and fans don’t like that.

“It’s gross and disturbing that she does not respect people’s personal space. Really disrespectful. She’s so creepy and cringe,” one fan bashed.

“Consent is still important, not just for males touching females. Drew never seems to acknowledge the courtesy of consent. I assume she doesn’t want honest answers,” another user observed.

“DB needs to respectfully take heed, read the room, back off & get help for her seemingly justified constant display of some sort of mental issues,” a third comment read.

Drew Barrymore continues to preach her message of physical touch despite fans’ rejection, and there are no signs she plans to change her ways.
