It has only been a day since Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite released and there already are set plans for an eSports tournament. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite — Battle of the Stones invites you to participate in a battle of heroes, villains, and those in-between from December 8-10 in Anaheim, California. The prize: $30,000.

The tournament will feature 16 of the world’s best players, although that’s tough to determine as of yet, considering the game just came out. To remedy this, the tournament will feature seven of the best Evo Marvel vs. Capcom players in the world. Six players will come from qualifying tournaments that precede the Battle of the Stones, and the remaining three players will be selected from an online competition.

With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite being released yesterday, the opportunities are endless for gamers across the globe to find their place in the tournament. Even you could find yourself competing with some of the world’s best.

The six in-person qualifying tournaments will take place all around the world. Obviously, the tournaments will be based around playing Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, although the official structure of the multiple tournaments hasn’t been released. This being the case, there is some information about the tournament that will make it a unique experience. Each winner from the six tournaments will receive a specific Infinity Stone based on the tournament they played in. The prizes, according to Capcom, “will grant actual abilities that can be used outside of the typical ‘in-game’ competition to give players an advantage over their opponent.”

There hasn’t been any other information on how these Infinity Stones will function as the tournament progresses, only that they will only be active for one match. According to Kotaku, if a challenger comes out of the battle victorious against a player with an Infinity Stone, they gain control over that stone.

So the structure of the tournament is coming to together a little bit, but we still don’t know to what degree these Infinity Stones will impact the outcome of the tournament. Stay posted for more information as we learn it.
