This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information.

Gun Media, the developer behind the popular co-op, survival horror game, Friday the 13th: The Game, has clarified that the game will not be getting a story mode. The news has come in the midst of Gun Media detailing the many improvements and additions that will be coming to the game in the future. One of those additions is a single-player mode, just one that won’t include a structured narrative that some fans have been hoping for.

In a recent update on the website for Friday the 13th: The Game, Gun Media went into detail about the confusion and set the record straight, saying:

We’ve received some messages from fans thinking that some aspect of our singleplayer was story driven. Sorry to let you down, but it’s not. The F13 films weren’t really known for their narrative. Sure, there’s a story in the films, but again, not the focal point per se. It was about Jason, victims, awesome kills and the occasional boob, right?

You can read the post in its entirety here.

It’s understandable the developer is going this route, as a narrative could possibly detract from aspects of Friday the 13th: The Game that has made it so popular in the last few months. Instead, this single-player campaign that Gun Media is creating will be introduced through a series of challenges, something that players of the Hitman series will be familiar with. Gun Media has stated the challenges in Friday the 13th could be as simple as “kill everyone”, or potentially killing someone a specific way with a certain kind of weapon. Either way, the single-player mode will bring some unique changes to the game and keep it fresh for players both old and knew.

Let us know what you think of the upcoming single-player mode in the comments. Were you hoping for a real narrative?
