While many Americans will likely attend Donald Trump‘s inauguration on the big day of January 20th, the weather forecast for Washington, D.C., spells quite chilling temperatures. The area is predicted to see severe record lows, what Trump calls an “Arctic blast sweeping the Country.” As a result, the President-elect made a statement via Truth Social that the Inauguration Address would “be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda.” Some might recognize the chosen ceremony location to be connected to a specific incident that occurred on January 6th, 2021.
“How ironic. Trump’s inauguration will be held at the scene of the crime,” states a commenter, pointing back to the appalling riot that transpired four years ago within the Capitol. Back on January 6th, 2021, the whole globe watched in horror as around 2,000 people stormed Capitol Hill. Hundreds broke into the government building during the terror attack, ransacking and making a mockery of its hallowed interior. The incident led to over 1,500 arrests, and millions of Americans clearly recall the horrendous tale.
Now, Donald Trump seeks to do as Ronald Reagan did in 1985 and use the Capitol Rotunda as the spot where he’ll be inaugurated, in addition to prayers and other speeches. “I don’t want to see people hurt,” he says, referring to the dangerous conditions of the frigid weather that will take place on Inauguration Day. Of course, countless critics see this as a cowardly move or a means to avoid “any bad hair pics on his special day” due to the icy winds.
“If he was genuinely worried about the people, that would be a first,” claims a commenter, as others point out that he had held rallies last summer with blistering temperatures. The heat was so bad, in fact, that multiple attendees had to be taken to hospital, according to The Guardian. Not to mention, several people died during the mob gathering at the Capitol back in 2021.
The site of the Inauguration Address isn’t the only reason people have found reason to be critical of Donald Trump and the inauguration itself. Numerous Americans are furious at specific celebrities who will be attending or performing at the ceremony. Some of the names include Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Elon Musk, among others. Needless to say, all have been blasted on social media and other platforms for supporting Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Whatever the case, it’s quite interesting that people attending the inauguration, including Donald Trump himself, will be standing in the same spaces where the rioters stood on the 6th. “History has a strange way of reminding us of its history,” comments an observant user.
