Tyra Banks is one of the many celebrities who have revealed they lost their home in the shocking LA fires. The America’s Next Top Model host shared the news in a recent interview. During her chat with Channel Seven, Tyra said that she decided to keep the news about her home private before letting the world know. “I lost my house,” she said before saying she “haven’t really talked about it, um, but yeah, I have,” she said through tears. “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me; I feel like there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t talked about it.”

In case you haven’t heard, the LA wildfires, which began in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, have been burning through California since January 7, 2025. Since then, several other fires have broken out, displacing more than 80,000 residents. Tyra, who’s currently in Australia to promote her new ice cream shop, explained how her priority has been on her friends and family. “I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but for my friends and family, making sure they were evacuating,” she said.

However, when things started to simmer down, Tyra and her partner discovered they had lost their California home. “I just pulled it together and didn’t say anything to my friends and just stayed in that moment. And then we went home, and we cried, and we had our moment,” she revealed. But not everybody feels as sorry for her. In the comment section of the DailyMail, users laid into the model for crying over losing “one of their homes.” So, what are they saying?

Once Tyra Banks’ statements about losing her home began to float around, users couldn’t help but comment on what she had to say. “Yes, fire is devastating. Yes, the pain doesn’t change, no matter who you are. But when you have OTHER HOMES to go to, it’s difficult to feel compassion,” someone said. “Well, she’s got other houses to live in,” someone else wrote. “Very tragic, of course, but her experience during these fires is entirely different than those who lost everything.” They continued: “So please, Tyra, take your tears elsewhere.”

Of course, Tyra isn’t the first celebrity to have been dragged over posting emotional messages about the loss of their homes. Singer Jhene Aiko clapped back at critics last week after they told her to build a new home. “The fact that some of you think I have Paris Hilton money is wild,” she wrote. “I don’t got it like that.” Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Mauricio Umansky also faced pushback for trying to secure clients during a deadly natural disaster. “I am praying for our brave firefighters. This is so devastating myself, and The Agency will do whatever we can in our power to help,” he wrote in an IG caption. “Helping how?” one person replied. “Charging $50 million for a house?”

According to an NBC News report, 27 people have died since the early January 2025 LA fires. “At least two of the people killed in the Southern California wildfires tried to protect the homes where they raised families and lived for decades, while another stayed behind with his son who had cerebral palsy and could not evacuate.” Hollywood stars, including Paris Hilton and Tina Knowles, have spoken out about the devastating fires. In their posts, they thanked the first responders for their bravery and commitment.
