Now is a good time to be a Dragon Ball fan. The anime is in the middle of a renaissance period, with the advent of Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is still going strong, with a release on the Nintendo Switch. Oh. And there was that whole Dragon Ball FighterZ thing, which sent fans into an uproar at E3. Xenoverse, in particular, offers a trip down memory lane, allowing players to revisit many of their favorite moments in the franchise. It’s a great concept that allows for a breadth of content, given the wealth of characters and attacks seen in the series since its inception.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is an enigma at the moment. The fairly recent reveal of story character, Android 21, seems to promise fresh new story angles. But the cast seen thus far has featured players from all over the timeline. Super Saiyan Blue Goku? Majin Buu? Teen Gohan? If time travel isn’t involved, how exactly all of these things fit together?

To make matters even more interesting, two new players have been revealed in the wake of the game’s February release. Japanese magazine, V-Jump, revealed that not only will players be granted the ability to take the reins of Nappa, but also Captain Ginyu. Suffice it to say, it looks like there’ll be a lot of body-swapping shenanigans afoot.

FighterZ isn’t the only game adding to its roster, however. The issue also revealed plans for a new DLC pack coming to Xenoverse 2. In it, fans can expect a plethora of new content, including two new fighters. Players already had the ability to dress as the androids from the Dragon Ball film, Super Android 13. But now Mr. Trucker-hat, himself, is joining the fray. With him is the legendary hero, Tapion, from Wrath of the Dragon.

Additionally, players can expect new aesthetic gear, based on Universe 2 and Universe 11, fan favorites of the currently ongoing Dragon Ball Super: Universe Survival arc in the anime. It wasn’t specified exactly which characters the gear would emulate, but it’d be pretty fair to assume Jiren and Ribrianne, as they’re the faces of their respective universes.

The more interesting question is what new attacks will be added. Every DLC pack thus far has added new signature moves, such as Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black’s (that is seriously a mouthful) Super Black Kamehameha Rose and Fuse Zamasu’s arsenal of “Divine Retribution” attacks. The latest DLC pack comes with a new Hero Colosseum feature.

This new facility introduces new story content and allows players to battle one another using figures. No idea what that means, at present, but new game modes are always nice. Especially the free kind. Either way, the anticipation is very real. Alas, no release date or specific pricing info was revealed.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is out for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and most recently, Nintendo Switch. Dragon Ball FighterZ charges onto shelves February 2018.
