In an era dominated by social media madness, one 87-year-old man has reminded us of the power of a personal touch. In a heartwarming display of kindness, the elderly gentleman went the extra mile by hand-delivering party invitations to his neighbors, spreading joy and building a sense of community that took the internet and news media by storm.
In a post by Mindyour in the r?MadeMeSmile Reddit page, the video was shared taken by a neighbor who received a knock on the door from a friendly old man who lives nearby. He hands her a letter, then she takes the camera and talks about it’s contents. The invite said the following.
A Celebration of Winter, February 15, 4PM, until the cops arrive. Food and drinks will be here, only bring a smile. Love, Doug.
That is right, Doug, a sweet old man, had plans to party until the police dare arrive and shut it all down. The video then flashed between items at the party, including a very sweet photo frame of his wife, with drinks, board games, and an awesome plaque that celebrated the big event. Seeing people come together for such a simple reason and share good times is so beautiful. Some Reddit posts shared the loving sentiment.
“i need a doug. the pic of his wife was absolutely precious!”
“This truly made me smile!! He had so many invitations in his pocket, I hope everyone invited was able to attend, because that spread looked amazing! You could tell he put in a lot of effort. I wish I had a neighbour like that. 🥺”
“I could watch this video 100 times and my heart sweell 100 times”
“The most important question remains unanswered: WHEN DID THE COPS ARRIVE?”
Doug was interviewed by Today, and the Bucks County, PA native spoke about his motivation for the party and how he feels about the spread of so much viral news and folks around the country wanting to chip in with their own friendly Winter celebrations. One lesson is clear: love thy neighbor and party until the cops show up.
