Elon Musk is the subject of a parliamentary petition to have his Canadian citizenship revoked over his continuous association with US President Donald Trump, who has constantly threatened Canada’s sovereignty. British Columbia author Qualia Reed launched the petition in Canada’s House of Commons over the weekend, backed by Musk critic Charlie Angus. The petition alleges that Musk, who gained Canadian citizenship through his mom Maye Musk, a native of Saskatchewan’s capital Regina, has engaged in activities that undermine Canada’s national interest.
The petition, filed on February 20, claims that Elon Musk’s continued association with Donald Trump invariably makes him an ally of “a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.” The author’s claims center around Trump’s indiscriminate threats to impose steep tariffs on Canadian products, and annex Canada as the 51st state, a direct attack on the country’s independence. Despite earning Canada’s wrath with his careless remarks, Elon Musk upholds his alliance with Trump, acting as an advisor as the two spearhead the crusade to slash the US federal budgets and downsize the government workforce.
Canada Pushes Petition To Revoke Elon Musk’s Citizenship

The petition demands that Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau retrieve Elon Musk’s Canadian passport and revoke his citizenship immediately. The petition claims that Musk not only engaged in activities that went against the country’s national interest, but also “used his wealth and power to influence” Canada’s elections. Additionally, the Petition, which has over 230,000 signatures, demanded that all the tech mogul’s attempts to “attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed.”
Musk Speaks on Overseas Efforts Following Sprawling Petition
As the petition to Canada’s government to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship continues to thrive, the mogul shared an X post on Tuesday highlighting a crucial lesson about preserving Peace. The post, which echoed the famous words of Ron Paul read,
“I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our business overseas.”
Musk Tagged a Hypocrite Following Overseas Comments
Several netizens stormed X to blast Musk’s cryptic post, deeming it his indirect means of addressing the Canadian situation. Many pointed out that Musk came to the realization about his “overseas dealings” a minute too late given his meddling in countries like Canada and Germany already had its ripple effect. One X user wrote
“American government is politically attacking Canada… that’s a very hypocritical statement.”
Another asserted,
“‘Minding our own business overseas.’ You hypocrite! You keep sticking your filthy nose in foreign business all the time!”
A third added with a note of sarcasm,
“Absolutely. We should also annex our neighbors though. I am ok with that. 51st state and all that stuff. We should also keep our friends guessing as to whether we’re still friends with them. I like that. It keeps the entire world on thin ice, as they should be.”

Notably, like Donald Trump, Elon Musk has openly cast stones at Canada’s Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau, and famously celebrated the Canadian Conservative party chief, Pierre Poilievre. His tweets have been widely considered interference in the country’s elections, given the power he wields on his platform.
Some experts have claimed that regardless of the allegations against him, the petition to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship would likely not succeed. However, Canada’s laws allow for the revocation of citizenship in certain cases, including instances of “fraud, people’s misrepresenting themselves or intentionally withholding information on an immigration or citizenship application,” per CTV News. A citizen could also opt to renounce their citizenship. In each case, the person in question can only apply to get it back after 10 years. That said, a lot could most certainly happen between now and June 20, when the signing period of the petition to revoke Musk’s citizenship is set to expire.
