Star Wars writer Gary Whitta is officially joining Kinda Funny Games Daily as on of the newest hosts of the show. The announcement was confirmed by Greg Miller earlier this week on Twitter, along with the two host conversing about in on KFGD as well.

Whitta will fill the void left by the departure of Danny O’Dwyer, who moved to Maryland last month. Since everyone’s favorite Irish Cream left, Kinda Funny has cycled in guests, as well as Tim Gettys and Andy Cortez, when necessary to help shoulder the load alongside Gregg Miller and Andrea Renee. Gary Whitta was one of those hosts.

Thrilled to have @garywhitta as an official Kinda Funny Games Daily host!#WhittaWednesday

While he is best known for work on the recent Star Wars standalone Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, co-writing alongside John Knoll, as well as credits for other movies (Book of Eli, After Earth), Whitta also has a storied history in the video game industry. After starting his in games journalism at ACE magazine, and then becoming the deputy editor of The One for Amiga Games, he helped found the original PC Gamer Magazine in the UK.

A few years later, Whitta moved to the United States to become the editor-in-chief of the US version of PC Gamer. Soon enough, he found himself a lot of success in screenwriting, eventually transition into it full time.

Kinda Funny

Kinda Funny and Whitta have had a long-standing relationship, as he’s appeared on previous Game Over Greggy podcasts. So when you combine their previous relationship, his past experience, and the positive reception from the fan base, it’s a no-brainer that he would come on as a permanent host.

There is no telling just how long Whitta will be a permanent host, considering the amount of work does outside of it with screenplays and writing for shows like Star Wars: Rebels and Telltales The Walking Dead video game, but Miller is well aware of the possibility that he may need to split at some point.
