‘Very Creepy’ Man ‘Posing as the Power Company’ Tries To Break Into Colorado Home: ‘Good Way To Get Shot’

Who goes into people’s houses unannounced?

Having a random person knock on your door can be scary, but a stranger trying your doorknob attempting to break in is another level of terrifying. That being said, a resident in Colorado got quite the scare when a man posing as the power company opened their screen door and rattled their doorknob. Getting up from their couch, the occupant checked to see who the suspicious trespasser was from the window. The random man claimed to be “from the power company” and said he “had the wrong house” before wandering off.

“Glad it turned out alright, BUT that’s absolutely an emergency number kind of call,” worriedly remarks a concerned commenter on the Colorado resident’s Reddit post. “If they have the balls to walk up and turn your knob (no pun intended, lol), they ARE F***ING DANGEROUS.” A few other individuals shared their story of a similar situation with shady-looking contractors hailing from power companies. “Those door-to-door guys are aggressively rude, but opening a door is a whole other level. Good way to get shot or have your a** kicked tbh,” another interjects.

Beyond calling 911 for the random man’s attempt at a break-in, other Redditors believed that having a weapon for self-defense would be ideal for such a situation. “With castle doctrine in Colorado, you will not face any consequences for shooting an unwanted person within the 4 walls of your house,” comments one. “He’s about to meet the wrong end of someone’s second amendment,” seconds another. A few more people noted how the man looked “very creepy” and that no normal “non-violent” person would make eye contact if someone took their picture.

An eagle-eyed Redditor pointed out that the man’s shirt logo is Power Home Remodeling, “a door-to-door window and siding sales company.” Three other commenters confirmed the suspicion, with one linking another post featuring a person’s awful experience with a member of the company. “Unless you are in the mood to be harassed, misled, upsold unnecessary projects, and ripped off, close the door on these guys,” the post’s TLDR reads.

Regardless of whether Power Home Remodeling is a scam business, someone attempting to break into another person’s home without any permission is grounds enough to call the police. And, as the top reply puts it: “If he has tried to break into your home, he tried it before.” If an investigation happens, hopefully, OP can help authorities identify who the creepy stranger is before he causes any more trouble.
