One Darwin-approved scooter rider fits the bill as he zooms down a busy highway at 65 mph โ without a helmet. Uploaded to multiple subreddits by JPPT1974, the video in question displays a man on a scooter in a red T-shirt and shorts in the middle lane of a freeway. Whether a death wish or simply not care in the world, the man is a danger, not just to himself but to other drivers as well.
“One stray pebble or wrong move and your exposed parts become hamburger ๐ซฃ,” comments an X user reacting to the same video. “I know Texas when I see it,” jokes another. Several more commenters state the obvious, saying the stunt is “suicidal, insane,” and “incredibly dangerous.” One tiny mistake or mishap on the ride is sure to turn the scooter man into paste, not to mention he could cause other cars to get into an accident.
“No helmet on the highway is wild behavior,” remarks a Redditor. “You should come to Florida some time lol,” replies a second. “Guy’s inner thoughts ‘Am on a highway to hell,'” laughs a third. Several users comment on how the scooter starts to wobble near the end of the video, which is typically a sign that a tumble is imminent. If you’re on a skateboard in a park, falling down would result in a minor injury. But falling off a scooter at 65 mph without any protection? There’s not going to be much left of you after that.
A few other commenters point out that the individual recording the video is also a hazard, seeing how they are driving down the freeway as well. “Luckily, the guy behind him is playing with his cell phone. That’s for extra bonus safety,” remarks one. “You know what is almost as insane? Pulling your phone out to start filming in this situation,” chimes in another.
This isn’t the first time people have attempted to go down the highway at 60+ mph on electric scooters. While impressive, the stunt is doubtless dangerous for the rider and anyone nearby. Plenty of videos on YouTube show Darwinians showing off the high speeds of their scooters. For demonstration and entertainment purposes, it might be fine, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of others’ safety.
