Whenever people hear the term “souls-like,” they either get excited at the chance of getting killed by an enemy repeatedly or get scared for that same reason. Either way, The First Berserker: Khazan is a game of this genre, which means that it might be a bit frustrating, especially if you’re unfamiliar with these games. Luckily, The First Berserker: Khazan allows players to pick between two difficulty modes. It is something rare but a quite welcome addition for newcomers. Here, we’ll tell you the main differences of each mode and how to pick between the two.
How Many Difficulty Modes Are in The First Berserker: Khazan?
Right now, there are two difficulty modes: easy and normal. When you start the game, you’ll always begin with normal mode. This is the intended way to play the game, and there are a few trophies and achievements locked behind this mode. However, you can change to easy mode in two different ways.
- Die often to get the option.
- If you die a lot during the game’s opening hours, you’ll get the option to lower the difficulty.
- From the main menu.
- Alternatively, you can head to your main menu, select the accessibility tab, and then pick easy mode.
Regardless of your pick, once you select easy mode, you can’t go back to normal mode. If you want to do so, you need to start a new game. Ideally, you should try the game in both modes, at least during the opening hours, to select the one you like the most. If you don’t want to do that, however, we’ll tell you the differences of each.
Differences Between Each Mode
In truth, the differences aren’t that big in terms of gameplay aspects. What we mean by this is that the game does not reduce enemy spawns or change foes’ mechanics and moves. Instead, it drastically changes the stats of Khazan and the enemies in the game.
For instance, after you beat the first boss, you’ll enter a new area full of wolves and different beasts. In normal mode, wolves take three quick hits to die while equipping the starter weapon. In easy mode, wolves die with two hits. Another thing is the damage Khazan receives. One of the elite enemies of that area, a boar, can kill Khazan with four hits in normal mode. In easy mode, Khazan can take almost twice the punishment.
Which Mode Is the Best?
In truth, we have to go with normal mode as the best difficulty in The First Berseker: Khazan. For starters, each difficulty mode has its trophy. In that sense, you could play the game twice in each mode and earn them if you’re going for that 100% completion rate. However, easy mode feels a bit boring, especially after a few hours. Normal mode, on the other hand, is quite challenging but encourages you to use all of the game’s systems. In our case, we prefer normal mode over the other. Still, you can pick easy mode and try the game once, and after finishing, you can try your luck with normal mode; the choice is yours.
