Work is a blessing to many, but sometimes it can be tiring and bothersome, especially for elders. One Pittsburgh woman couldn’t help but notice that the waitress serving her and her son was too old to be working. The Pittsburgh woman was kind enough to the point where she posted a TikTok asking people to help her retire the waitress. She didn’t imagine the reaction she got at all. Following several updates and a few days later, the elder woman’s life was forever changed.

In the viral video, the Pittsburgh woman started describing the waitress serving her and her son at Eaton Park. She starts her video by saying “If I can make one video go viral, I hope it’s this one.” The woman then shared that the elder waitress “could hardly walk.” She shared more details in the TikTok video, and these details moved the hearts of everyone watching.

The Pittsburgh woman, named Tamie, detailed how their waitress was telling another table that she makes $910 a month on social security. Of course, her bills pass that number and this is why she still needs to work. This encouraged the woman to help the waitress by promising to give her any proceeds she gets from this video. The TikTok Creator Rewards Program gives creators money based on views and engagement. So the Pittsburgh woman made a plea for people to help her help the waitress. She even left her $40 as a tip.

The video then shows the waitress moving from one table to another with difficulty due to old age. Once they were ready to pay, the mother started a conversation with the waitress whose name turned out to be Betty. Betty shared how she has been working all her life as a waitress, which is another reason why people sympathized with her.

Pittsburgh Woman Starts a GoFundMe

After many people recommended that she start a GoFundMe for Betty, the Pittsburgh woman did that. She also gave people the choice of sending on Venmo if they wanted to. Her kid shared how he was praying on their way home that the video would go viral so that Betty could retire. One TikTok user foreshadowed what was to come and change Betty’s life forever.

“Why is the goal only 9k for Betty to retire? No one can retire off that. I pray she at least gets 100k”

In another update, the Pittsburgh woman was emotional as she was filled with gratitude for everyone who helped. She even revealed how some of the people who worked with Betty before reached out to her. All of them had nice things to say about the waitress. At the time of writing this, the GoFundMe for Betty reached the jaw-dropping number of $288,681 with over 11,000 donations.

Despite all these donations, Betty shared with the Pittsburgh woman that she doesn’t want to retire because “it keeps her going.” She plans, however, to cut down her hours which is better than nothing. Since she enjoys working, as she said, she will have the choice to keep working even with all the money gathered for her.

Changing the Life of Betty

One TikTok user told the Pittsburgh woman “YOU HAVE CHANGED THIS WOMANS [sic] LIFE. Bless you for this.” Tamie then shared a much-needed update, in which she informed Betty of the money. The waitress joked about how she needed a financial advisor. She then showed her gratitude by saying “Oh my God. You don’t know what this is going to help me for.”

People had a lot of reactions about everything that went down. One TikTok user wrote, “Restored faith in humanity.” Another shared how the video went viral to the point where it reached New Zealand. Some even prayed that Betty would be able to get all the money raised.

The Negative Side

While the Pittsburgh woman described the entire situation as “wild,” she did share a negative side of the situation. Many people reached out to her and asked that she give them some of Betty’s money. This is not it. Thankfully, she made it clear that all the money would go to Betty and Betty only. She even said that if someone reached Betty and tried to scam her, she was going to intervene. “I will hunt you the f**k down,” were her words.

Tamie even went a step further as she made sure to contact a lawyer to help Betty with everything, especially since it was a lot of money. It will be set up in a trust so that she can be on the safe side. Tamie then revealed that she wasn’t going to turn off the GoFundMe. With lawyers involved, hopefully, Betty will be safe and well, and no one will try to harm her in any way.
