It’s estimated that there are around 500,000 feral cats in New York City alone, according to Brooklyn-based non-profit Flatbush Cats. Surprisingly, however, while this number may seem large, Los Angeles by comparison allegedly houses between one and three million felines. Needless to say, with so many furry kitties on the streets, kindhearted souls who want to help the local cat community can sometimes be seen out in the wild. Case in point, a New York woman was recently spotted riding the subway with two rescued cats in tow.
In the brief video clip, a lady wearing a grey coat can be seen riding on the New York subway, with two kittens nonchalantly perched on the top of her head and shoulders. One is a tabby cat and the other is dark black with splashes of light brown fur, and both look a little anxious likely due to the noisy environment on board the train.
The OP who shared the clip, owen_thedon, commented on the post, writing, “Finally some solid NY subway entertainmentโฆ(for the record, she had just found these kittens.)” Indeed, from what we can gather, the woman reportedly rescued the two cats and was simply trying to help them.
As the sweet moment was captured on camera, social media users couldn’t resist hopping into the comments section and sharing their reactions. A user on Instagram jokingly chipped in with, “I think they’re holding her hostage.” while another netizen encapsulated the wholesome nature of the video, penning, “The cats JUST claimed her. They can tell she has a loving heart“.
Some other comments, however, were a little more concerned about the consternation the wee kittens may have been suffering while traveling on the subway, expressing, “They look terrified.” A fourth remark came in, though, which summed up the situation for me, “NYC cats built differently. They knew how to sit comfortably and not create a distraction. They just found their forever home๐๐”
