Almost everybody knows the feeling of finding some loose change in a couch or on the floor while cleaning. But what if you found more than just a few cents and the chunk of change you found was to the tune of $50,000? This was reality for one man and his mom in Maryland. Early April, a mother and son were working together to move some of her furniture around when the son came across a $5 Holiday Luck Doubler scratch-off ticket.
When the son, who chose to remain anonymous, showed the ticket to his mom, she said that she intended on giving the tickets to her children in their Christmas stockings but they were missed during the holidays. She urged him to scratch off the ticket and agreed that they would share any money if they won.

The son proceeded to scratch off the ticket hours later when he was at home. Imagine his surprise when he realized it was worth a whopping $50,000, the top prize for the game!
At first, he thought that it was a prank and even his wife was in disbelief.“Did that really just happen?” she exclaimed. The son confirmed with the Maryland Lottery headquarters that this was, without a doubt, a real ticket. In wasn’t a dream at all!
How the mother-son duo decided to handle the winnings is the most wholesome part of this story. The son spoke with the lottery, saying that he was going to use his portion to save up for his own house and pay back his mother what he owed her. His mom, in turn, said that her portion would be shared with her other children and grandchildren. Now that’s a little bit of luck for everyone.
The Maryland Lottery also said that they will be giving a $500 bonus to the liquor store that sold the ticket for their role in this happy tale. I bet we all wish that this was a mother-son bonding experience that we could share!
