We all knew the Ohio State Buckeyes would visit the White House this week. What was the reason? Well, the team won the national championship over Notre Dame, so it was a big deal. What OSU was not expecting, however, was for JD Vance to destroy the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy on live TV, where Washington citizens and the whole world watched it. As you can imagine, many people see this as the perfect metaphor for the current country’s situation. And, you can also see the reactions from everyone behind Vance. They weren’t the greatest, to say the least.
The video comes from user Brian Tyler Cohen in Bluesky. In it, we can see the OSU team visiting the White House, where it would receive a well-deserved award. However, when the US Vice President, JD Vance, approached to grab the trophy, he broke it apart. And yes, this happened on live TV, which means everyone and their grandmother watched. And if not, the news will certainly reach them soon.
Also, the team behind Vance laughs at the matter, and a few just look awkwardly at the event. What else is there to do, really? While Vance and the one next to him tried to put it back together quickly, it was already broken, so only hope OSU can take a whole trophy back home at least.
As you can expect, many Bluesky users had opinions on the matter, with many thinking this clearly represented the country’s current administration.
“Everything this administration touches is crumbling.” – Brandon Combs via Bluesky.
“Statue = American Democracy.” – Curious Citizen via Bluesky.
“The most accidentally perfect metaphor for his whole career.” – Mike Cordova via Bluesky.
In the end, the whole team still posed for photos while Vance and an OSU graduate held the trophy together. It is uncertain if someone will fix the trophy, but we certainly hope someone will.
