Sometimes, driving problems are not only the fault of the drivers but also of the condition of the roads. Whether or not the roads are in good shape depends on the quality of the construction materials, the weather, such as rain, and how often the government gives them maintenance. Well, at least the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, government decided the city streets needed repaving urgently, according to this post on Reddit. However, the builders and citizens discovered something else after moving the materials to be replaced.

Philadelphia is repaving the streets, and you can see the original brick underneath.

Redditor goldswag_pants shared on r/mildlyinteresting a very particular image of workers repaving Philadelphia streets, where builders remove the old material to make way for the new one. This alone raised suspicions among many citizens, as the city’s streets do not always seem in the best shape. Some comments said that this could not be happening in Philadelphia or that it is very strange to see this in this city.

Another thing that caught many people’s attention is that the original street bricks are still visible underneath the concrete rubble. Several users pointed out that the original bricks appear in good condition and that some cities use them in their streets to give them a historical appearance. It is like a feeling that time has not passed, especially on the streets closer to downtown.

I’m just thinking about all the people who rip up carpet to find expensive wood flooring lol

Others agree that brick roads look good. At first, the surface is smooth, but over time, it becomes bumpy, which is bad for cars’ suspension. Therefore, although it’s sad, the new material will cover the history of these bricks. However, with modern cars, especially models with less suspension, it is a relief that these roads will be as good as new. Now, the streets of Philly will be safer and will look much better when all of this construction ends.
