A new debate has arisen on a few internet communities in Dallas, Texas. As you know, merging when driving is something you have to do with care, especially if you’re driving down a highway. However, some people don’t know how to do it, and sometimes, they miss other drivers merging into their lane. One recent case that has sparked discussion is that of a driver, nay, drivers in Dallas who almost caused an accident on the I-35. On the one hand, some think the merger was responsible. On the other hand, they think the other driver was at fault.
The video comes from the r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, which was then posted on the r/Dallas subreddit, showcasing two drivers almost causing a collision. In the footage, you can see two vehicles on the right lane. Pay attention to the SUV. This vehicle is driving normally, and then another car wants to merge into the SUV’s lane, but it seems this caught the SUV driver off guard, thus making the person lose control of the SUV.
At first glance, one would think the SUV driver was responsible for what happened. If you look at the video once, it seems the person didn’t see the merging car. However, there’s another theory among many. Some say the merger was the one responsible. In truth, this is the case when merging lanes. The one merging should be aware of the cars already in the lane. Here, the driver ignored the SUV and almost caused a collision. As you can imagine, this sparked a debate among many subreddits, including the abovementioned ones.
“I can’t believe how lucky they were to not hit anything and have a wide open median there.” – Thetinydeadpool via Reddit.
“The merging car has to give way…that’s not how merging works…that’s not how turn signals work either.” – ABCapt via Reddit.
“It looks like the merging car had been in the lane for a few seconds by the time the SUV noticed it existed.” – AffectionateKey7126 via Reddit.
As you can see, many claim the SUV didn’t notice the driver. If that was the case, then yes, the SUV was responsible for this close call. Yet, many also think the merger didn’t do it right. You must respect those already in the lane, and this driver didn’t seem to do so.
Regardless, the important thing is that no one got hurt. In the end, the SUV just stopped at the side of the highway, and it seems the vehicle was unscathed. However, it is alarming to see this type of driving. Whoever was at fault, we only hope they get fined for driving so carelessly.
