What started as a medical emergency quickly turned into a viral moment for a Florida university student. After suffering an unexpected seizure, she woke up to discover that people had recorded her during the seizure, and the videos were making the rounds online.
The upset student took to Reddit to share the story of how she had a seizure for the first time while she was in class. According to her, she was sitting in a lecture hall when she started to feel dizzy.
Seeking some relief, she stood and attempted to exit the class. However, she ended up falling down the stairs, after which she immediately had a seizure. The victim further recounted that during the seizure, she urinated on herself, and her breasts had somehow gotten exposed.
A stranger rushed to her side to help her during the ordeal. However, even though the seizure lasted for all of four minutes, others who were present at the scene took the opportunity to record her instead of trying to help.
The university student was transferred to a hospital where she was treated and eventually discharged. After leaving the hospital, an unnamed individual forwarded a video to her on Snapchat with the caption “Just so you know.” Curious as to what it was, she opened the video only to find that it was a recording of the nightmarish incident, which had now been posted on various social media platforms.
Traumatized, the victim took to Reddit to seek legal counsel, asking, “Is there anything I can do about this?”
After sharing her story, numerous social media users came forward to condemn the students who recorded her in such a vulnerable state. One user commented, “I can’t believe how disgusting people can be when someone’s life could be in danger. Scumbag.”
Another replied, “To show it on social media is deplorable. It’s such a personal and traumatic thing.”
Others tried to give the victim some guidance on how to navigate the situation legally. One person suggested that she hire a lawyer because “school admins are not always understanding and may be more focused on saving themselves than caring for you.”
Another individual stated that although filming someone in public isn’t illegal, the victim might be able to “cite some variation of nonconsensual dissemination of pornographic material” because her breasts were exposed. Another person remarked, “Depending on the school’s policy, it could result in serious disciplinary action for those posting it.”
More users called out the students who recorded her for being “horrible” and further empathized with the victim’s health situation. Notably, the suspects’ identities are yet to be known, and so far, no update has been given regarding the situation.
