Highway accidents can be tragic and cost people their lives, but they can also cost hundreds, if not thousands, of others precious time. Fortunately, an LA police officer dealing with a car crash that happened on Interstate 405 in California did some quick thinking and potentially saved countless drivers from being late to their destination or even possible unemployment. The cop did this by using his vehicle to ram into an overturned car, pushing it out of the way so that traffic could keep flowing.

In the eyes of the internet, this LA police officer is a hero, and a smart one at that. In the comment section of the clip posted on Reddit, thousands of online users praised the cop for doing the right thing. “He has a push bumper installed on his car for a reason,” the cop commenter remarked. “Finally, someone who isn’t afraid to use technology as it is designed to.” Another, claiming to be a former firefighter medic who worked on the interstate, expressed how this was the best course of action. “Get traffic moving again as soon as the crash victims have been removed.”

Many Redditors also realized how much of a timesaver the move was to push the overturned vehicle off the road. “It’s the 405 so it’s probably backed up for 20 miles already,” reads a comment. Another chimed in, saying that people might not understand how much traffic Interstate 405 services. For those not from the area, it’s a gigantic highway that runs through much of LA and is one of the only two that allow traffic to pass through all the way from north to south or vice versa. “Bro just saved THOUSANDS of drivers from worse traffic,” commented a Redditor. Another agreed, saying, “That’s huge actually, half the city would’ve been congested by that damn car.”

Plenty more sang the praises of the 405 patrol officer, with commenters saying his position is a great use of their tax dollars or that more cops should be like him. On a highway where ‘rush hour’ is technically perpetual, the policeman deserves all the recognition he can get.
