Once abusive, always abusive — which is what one grandfather in Sarpy County, Nebraska, turned out to be to his daughter, even after she became an adult and had a child. The grandpa is so shameless, in fact, that he assaulted his own daughter in front of her 7-year-old son after they attempted to kidnap him without her permission. After beating her up, physically throwing her out of the house, and locking her out, the grandparent eventually gave the mother back her son when she didn’t leave. Wildly enough, she decided not to call the cops.
“Unfortunately, I did not press charges, but I did take pictures of the bruises,” the Nebraska mother told Reddit’s r/legaladvice. She did, however, proceed to cut all contact with her son’s abusive grandparents. Eventually, they did get in touch with her because they wanted to see their grandson for the holidays, but she refused to let him visit. Needless to say, they didn’t want to comply with her boundaries. Angered by her decision, the grandfather took legal action, suing his own daughter for visitation even though she has “sole custody” of her son.
“Do I even have a case to prevent them from seeing him?” she asks bewildered. “I don’t even know where to begin.” For starters, many commenters in her post strongly suggest she get an attorney, even if the chances of her parents winning anything out of their lawsuit are slim. The next most important thing is that she should call the authorities if anyone attacks her, even if it’s her own family member. “Future reference, call the Police anytime someone puts their hands on you in anger and they were holding your son against your will. You want it documented,” says a Redditor.
“I will add that it was somewhat understandable you didn’t call the police on your dad the first time. Do not make the same mistake twice, for your child and your own safety.” chimes in another. This is an awful situation for her and her 7-year-old to go through, but hopefully, she’ll be smart and keep herself far away from her dangerous parents. Any grandparent who physically attacks their own family is not fit for any sort of right to see their grandchildren.
