Starting from X-Men vs. Street Fighter in 1996, Capcom and Marvel’s crossover series has stood as the king of superhero fighting games for decades. The ridiculous East-vs-West crossovers, the flashy assists, and the high-speed tag-team rumbles made it an instant fan favorite. But after the stumble that was Infinite, it went quiet; it doesn’t help that Arc System Works came swinging out of nowhere with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Fans believe that it will take the Reality Stone for a Marvel vs Capcom 5 to materialize. But according to one Discord leak, Capcom may not be ready to throw in the towel just yet.
This leak was originally posted way back in April 2024, although the leaker and server’s names seem to have been scrubbed from the internet history. Said report claimed that Marvel vs Capcom 5 was in development, with plans for a 2025 announcement and a 2026 release window. While most dismissed it at the time, the leaker’s track record is now raising eyebrows.
After all, the same leak accurately predicted much of Street Fighter 6 Season 2’s DLC roster long before official reveals. Bison, Elena, Terry, and Mai were nonchalantly namedropped weeks before they were revealed on June 7, 2024 — even the City of the Wolf collaboration. That alone would’ve been impressive, but the leak didn’t stop there.
More than a full year before anyone knew, the post also mentioned that Arc System Works was developing a Marvel fighting game. Sounds like a practical joke, right? Fast forward to June 5, 2025, and the company officially announced Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls at PlayStation’s State of Play. While some dates were off, both major claims from the Marvel vs Capcom 5 leak have now been validated.
The Discord leak also mentioned that Capcom vs SNK 3 might follow after Marvel vs Capcom 5. And the Monster Hunter developer is also prepping Sagat, Crimson Viper, and Alex as additional DLC fighters for Street Fighter 6. Although, all things considered, they might have been pushed back into 2026 for Season 3.
One could say it’s hard to believe Marvel still has room for another tag-fighter, especially after the harsh reception of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Nevertheless, Capcom continues to maintain its Marvel license, as seen with the recently released Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. The retro bundle could be more than a nostalgia trip and help gauge whether a Marvel vs Capcom 5 should move forward.
Arc System Works may have landed a sucker punch with Marvel Tokon, but Capcom’s signature crossover might not be out of the ring just yet. Whatever the case, Avengers fans are still eating good this year.
