According to recent statistics, a staggering 500,000 dog bites occur in Canada annually, with the majority happening in the summer months. While fatal dog attacks are incredibly rare in the country, there are still around one or two people who die from dog bites every year. Recently, footage taken in Vancouver of a pitbull attacking a group of six youths was caught on camera. Thankfully, the teens managed to find a safe space on top of a vehicle, though the pitbull still continued to hound the group despite sitting safely out of reach from the canine’s jaws.
The brief snippet of footage reportedly takes place in Vancouver, as revealed on a Youtube video description of the same clip. In it, we see a dark grey vehicle parked on the sidewalk, with one teen sat on the boot, and several young adults hastily clambering onto the top of the car. Straightaway, it’s unclear why the youths are so alarmed, but moments later, it becomes crystal clear, as a grey pitbull runs into view and runs past the car.
While the dog is out of view, you can see the teens climbing higher in a bid to get to a safe place away from the snapping jaws of the canine, as it’s still nearby. After a few moments, the pitbull hops up onto the car and tries to bite the leg of one of the young girls who is stood on the car bonnet, and narrowly misses. The dog persists its attack, and circles the vehicle like a predator, staring at the youths like they’re its prey.
After several jumps, and narrow misses, the dog continues its vicious attack running around in circles, looking for an opening. The youths on top of the car look absolutely terrified and hold onto each other to stop themselves from falling from the car roof. One of the teens even tries to slap the dog’s head while it’s jumping up to bite them.
At one point, however, the pitbull manages to scurry up onto the windshield of the car, forcing one of the teens to kick the aggressive dog away, but it persists its savage assault. A few youths jump off the car and begin running away, though the dog follows them briefly off frame before returning to the vehicle.
It’s currently unclear whether anyone was hurt during the attack, as there is very little information available to the public concerning the shocking incident.
With the video circulating on social media, many comments came in reacting to the footage. On Reddit, one commenter posed a serious query, asking, “Serious question. How would you defend yourself if faced with one of these and you couldn’t get away? No weapons on you at the start of the attack“. This started a long thread of responses that gave thoughtful answers to this question.
- “Avoid eye contact, loudly and firmly yell โSTOPโ or โDOWNโ or โNOโ (or similar), try to dangle a jacket or something in front of you (think like a bull – itโs gonna go for whatever is in front of its face first), and lastly, if you absolutely must fight, nose/throat/eyes first. Also, if you get bit, as ridiculously counterintuitive as this sounds, donโt yank away – itโs going to cause massive amounts of immediate trauma. Push into it and use that to try to get the eyes or throat – better chances of it releasing the jaw grip that way. โฆ also, I hope you donโt ever actually have to use the above. ๐ญ” — awarapu2

I bent his legs upwards, because I thought a broken leg would stop his will. It didnโt. Even when I managed to get him loose by sticking a stick up his ass, he just turned right around, ran straight through me, knocking me over, and went straight back for my husky. I had to stab him fourteen times. 14. In the heart. He did NOT let go at all until the VERY last stab. Thatโs when he just let go and dropped dead. During the first 13 stabs though? That fucker wouldnโt let go. He just wouldnโt. He was in such a frenzied rage for my dog. I do believe he was a fighting dog, considering his lifestyle with my neighbors. One more lighthearted comment came in, expressing, “What happened to the roof of my car!?” referencing the potential damage that was caused to the vehicle that served as a safe haven from the vicious pitbull attack.
Hopefully, no one was hurt by the enraged canine, and authorities can catch the dog at the heart of this dramatic attack, as getting bitten by a pitbull is seriously no joke.
