A rather bizarre hit-and-run occurred in Discovery Bay, California, when a boat full of people ran into a jet ski and fled the scene. Videos posted on Instagram detailed the incident.
From the videos shared, a man could be seen peacefully floating on his Jet Ski, allowing the waves to bob him along while he stood and looked ahead, when a boat approached him. The boat was filled with numerous people laughing, talking loudly, and making a ruckus, all of whom were obviously inebriated.
Initially, the victim on the jet ski passed the boat without incident. However, he circled the dock and came across the boat once more, and they made contact. The boat quickly picked up speed and attempted to pass between other boats on the dock. However, it rammed into the jet ski in the process, and the victim was instantly thrown into the water, erupting screams of concern from people watching.
Rather than stop to assess the scene, the boat gained more speed, swerved sharply, rammed into the dock again, and took off, hitting more boats in the process. In another footage of the same incident, the victim was captured getting out of the water and climbing onto the dock, not his jet ski.
The woman recording the video could be heard saying, โHeโs on the dock, but theyโve hit so many boats. So many boats.โ The video also showed a better angle of how the boat sped off, with the partygoers visibly unbothered by the damage they caused.
The video sparked outrage online, with several users calling for the arrest of the suspects on the boat. โWTF!!! ๐คฌ Drinking, boating, and egos are never a good mix. Hope whoever is okay and the psycho is apprehended.โ
One user commented, โWhat about the fact he tried to kill the guy on the jet ski. F*ck everything else smh.โ Another user wrote, โWelpโฆ thatโs how you lose your boat in 60 seconds.โ
A user listed out the possible charges the suspects could face. โAttempted vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accidentโฆ boating while intoxicated, to name a few.โ However, another user replied, pointing out that such behaviour is a regular occurrence in the city. โThe alcoholics that live in that cityโฆ This isnโt new ๐โ
Still enraged, one user called for everyone on the boat to face charges for encouraging the driverโs reckless behaviour. Another called it a โfelony level assault as well as hit and run.โ However, one user sarcastically pointed out that the partygoers were likely spoiled rich kids who wouldnโt face the consequences of their actions. โMy daddy will buy me another boat and I wonโt see a day in jail ๐๐๐โ.
While the suspects are yet to be identified, the incident has been brought to the attention of the sheriff and Contra Costa County Fire officials.
